Thanks for all the suggestions. Gaston was watching an old Fred Astaire movie this morning when I went to the kitchen for breakfast. I LOVE to watch Fred Astaire dance – he’s just so elegant. And it hit me! I don’t need to BUY outfits for tomorrow night. I need to (wince) RENT them!
Gotta go… I hope this works!

I’m having a four alarm fashion crisis here! I can’t find anything for us to wear Monday night! The mall is picked over – I mean it looks like locusts converged on the place!
So now I’m in panic mode – What are we going to wear!?! It’s an outdoor concert – and it IS winter here – so I’m thinking we should dress warm. But I don’t want to sweat! Sweating on stage is NOT “groovy” – Eeewwwwwwww.
HELP! I need some ideas!

While I was at the mall yesterday, the Mayor’s wife stopped me and said the mime act that was headlining Riverdale’s First Night Celebration cancelled.
FYI: First Night is a party for the whole town – games for kids, parties – you know, safe FUN for EVERYONE. Does your town have a First Night Celebration?
She wanted to know if The Archies would take their place! I said, “SURE!” So, it looks like we have a gig – a BIG one – on New Year’s Eve.
I have soooo much to do! I have to call everybody, and we have to rehearse, and I need to see if Dilton and the guys can do the sound and lights again and – GASP! – WHAT ARE WE GOING TO WEAR?!? The whole TOWN will be there!
FASHION EMERGENCY!!! I’m heading back to the mall. Later…

That’s right, it’s my Second Favorite Shopping Day of the Year! No, I don’t go for the sales (we covered that before Christmas, remember?) And I don’t go looking for bargains (not really my thing)
I go shopping because EVERYONE ELSE IS! It is just SO EXCITING! I love being out and about with all those happy people! So, you know where you’ll find me today –
AT THE MALL!!!
I’ll Catch up with you when I get home. Today, I’m –

Sending hugs YOUR way this Christmas Day!

… in the Christmas program at church this morning. I didn’t plan to. But, Mrs. Davis, the soprano who sings O Holy Night every year had laryngitis this morning, so they asked ME to pinch hit for her! (That’s a baseball term; I learned it from Betty.)
So, I sang O Holy Night - with the entire choir backing me up – it was INCREDIBLE!!! You know, I wasn’t even nervous until AFTER I sang; then I walked back to my seat and my knees turned to jello!!! Betty said I sounded great.
Now that that bit of excitement is over, Bets and I are going to pick up some last minute stuff for her mom, then meet the gang at Pops.
Hey, did any of YOU sing at church or school this month? And if you did, how did it go?

Already? It’s true, bbs! Betty and I have been blogging for a whole year TODAY. Thanks for all the good wishes you’ve sent our way; Bets and I are putting them all in a scrapbook called, Our Blogs: Year One. (Her idea; she’s the crafty one, remember?)
So, MY question to YOU is:
What is your favorite bloggy moment from our first year?
If that’s too hard, try this one:
Did you discover anything new about Bets and me?
One more:
What would you like to see us add to our blogs next year?
Can’t wait to read your comments!
Thanks for spending the past year with us. Let’s get the next one started right NOW!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I just felt like saying that. Today, school let out early and we don’t have to go back until January 2nd! Can I get a big cheer for Christmas Vacations Everywhere?!
Yeah!!! Yippee!!! Woo Hoo!!!
Absolutely NO schoolwork was done today. We just had little parties in every class I went to. Professor Flutesnoot DID show us some incredible pictures of real snowflakes – they’re all different. Did you know that?
And Mr. Weatherbee made his annual Christmas speech over the PA system. It’s the same every year. He wishes us a Merry Christmas and tells us to be safe and then ends by saying he’ll see us all “next year”. That part always makes me giggle because he says it like it’s a really long way off.
Miss Grundy had us share how we are spending our Christmas holiday – so, I think I’ll ask YOU the same question:
How are you planning to spend Christmas?
LMK- I’m meeting Bets at Pops, but I’ll read your comments when I get back.

A great thing about winter fashion is all the fabulous knits! Sweaters, cardigans, skirts, sweaters; so much to choose from! They are comfy, warm and fashionable. I just picked up a thick, gray, knitted, turtleneck sweater that comes down to my thighs, and I can’t get enough of it. It is so comfortable, and with a pair of thick black stretch pants and black knee-high boots, it is simply to die for! And the best part about it: I am not freezing, which is quite common with my desire for high fashion and cold winter months. I can fit a form fitting long-sleeved shirt beneath it, and if it is really cold, a fitted sports tank top beneath that. And it still manages not to look over-bulky. I repeat, hooray for knits!
That’s what Christmas shopping with 22 – make that 26 guys (we picked up some stragglers) – is like. Herding ferrets. They’re wacky, they dart everywhere and they have extremely short attention spans! LOL
First, I had to get them all past the cheese and sausage store. They completely wiped out 5 sample trays in 2.3 seconds! Then I had to lay down this shopping ground rule: Appropriate Christmas gifts for girls cannot be found at 1) mall kiosks, or 2) tool departments of any store.
Once I made that clear, things started to turn around. We found gifts for everyone – and it only took three and a half hours! Then we made one more stop at the charity gift wrap booth. We found Reggie singing White Christmas! While the elves wrapped everything in pretty paper, Reggie coaxed me into singing a couple of songs with him. We drew a huge crowd of shoppers who all clapped and cheered after every song. It was FUN!
I probably wouldn’t volunteer to take a bunch of guys shopping again… but it didn’t turn out half bad!

What have I gotten myself into?!? Last week, Moose asked me if I’d go Christmas shopping with him to pick out a gift for Midge. I said, “SURE!” He’s such a sweetie.
Well, today at lunch, Moose said a couple of guys from the football team were having trouble finding presents for their girlfriends too, so they wanted to tag along. Then Dilton heard about our shopping trip and he asked if he could join us. Then Raj, RHS’s newest student joined the group, and a bunch of under classmen.
And NOW I’m going to help 22 guys from Riverdale High do their Christmas shopping! LOL How do I get myself into these things? Me, Veronica Lodge, a personal shopper for guys who are clueless at gift giving!
We’re going to meet at the mall tomorrow after school. I’ll let you know how it goes. Note to self: Wear comfy shoes.
Got YOUR shopping done yet?

This is my 5th post about Christmas traditions. Today I want to talk about Christmas specials on TV. This is sort of a new tradition – as traditions go. I mean, some traditions are hundreds of years old, like making wreaths and putting up a tree. But Christmas specials have only been around since television was invented.
That’s enough historical stuff.
So, my very favorite Christmas special of all time is Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer – the one with Burl Ives and Clarice the pretty reindeer. But I also love The Peanuts, and The Chipmunks… and anything with music… or ice skating… or ballet. LOL I love them ALL!
So, what is YOUR very favorite TV Christmas special?

Whew! Am I glad THIS week is OVER! School has been absolutely NUTS, especially since news of Juggy’s “makeover” broke.
You will be happy to know that Ethel was better today – not much, but some. At least she was able to sit through a couple of classes. I saw Jughead talking to her at lunch and she seemed much better after that. Jug is such a sweetie; I’m soooo sorry this is happening to him.
Mr. Weatherbee is starting a petition drive next week, demanding these “makeovers” cease. He says they are detrimental to the student body’s concentration and morale. Way to go, Mr. Bee! I think this petition thing might just catch on. I’ll keep you posted on that.
Anyway, my plan for the weekend is to get a facial and a pedi and then hit the mall. Woo Hoo! I LUV to shop when the mall is crazy; I’ve been looking forward to this all week.
So, lmk what YOU are doing this weekend!

Okay, I don’t know Joe Staton, personally; I’ve never met the man. But if I were him, I’d leave town until the first of the year. Maybe permanently!
FYI: Joe Staton is the artist who re-drew Jughead in this special issue thing coming up. Just for the record – I hate it. Been there. Done that.
Worse,
Ethel hates it, and that is why Joe Staton should seriously think
about leaving town. Ethel is LIVID! I’ve never seen her like
this!!! Today, at school, she was too mad to even SIT in a class. She
just paced up and down the halls like some sort of caged animal. We
all took turns pacing with her so she wouldn’t be alone.
Apparently,
in this special issue, Jughead has a girlfriend – and it’s NOT
ETHEL!!!!!! You
can guess what Ethel thinks of this!
So that is why Joe Staton should leave town. Maybe even the country.
(Belize
is nice this time of year. :) Ethel
Muggs is looking
for you, Mr. Staton, so run. Run fast. Run far.

Another holiday celebration officially ends tonight. I’m talking about the Jewish holiday, Hanukkah. Makes me kinda sad, because I LUV everything about December; I think it has the most holidays of any other month! It’s just so festive!
Hanukkah runs for 8 whole days and the dates change a little every year, but it’s always in December. (If that’s not right, lmk!)
So, Zoe101 and Coral (and Everyone else!), pls tell me all about how YOU celebrated Hanukkah this year!

This is my 4th post about holiday traditions. Today I want to talk about Christmas trees.
My opinion: I LUV ‘EM!!!!
I don’t care if they are fresh (love the smell!) or fake, I adore them! We have 7 Christmas trees at my house. Most of them are small and are decorated with a certain theme – 12 Days of Christmas, birds, angels – you get the idea. Then we have one huge tree in the foyer which is pretty spectacular. Gaston has an aluminum tree from the ‘60’s in the kitchen; it has a colored rotating light that shines on it. He loves the thing! LOL
There are some Christmas trees I don’t care for, though – like the odd colored ones – hot pink, purple, blue and lime green. I’m all for making a fashion statement, but those colors are just wrong! And I’m not so fond of the ones that hang upside down from the ceiling, either.
But I DO like trees made entirely of lights. And I saw one that you leave outside and decorate with food for wild birds. That one was pretty cool, too.
So, do YOU have a Christmas tree at your house and if you do, tell me about it!

I know you can’t wait to hear about Archie’s birthday, so here’s the scoop: my gift to Archie was dinner, with ME, at a brand new French restaurant that opened in Midvale last week. Impeccable décor, fine food, great service - you know, my kind of place!
So, I went to pick Archie up at 6 and do you know what he was wearing? The Hawaiian shirt Betty gave him, and sandals!!! I started to protest, but he looked so happy – and they were very nice sandals – so that’s how we went to dinner.
I really enjoyed the restaurant, but I think Archie would have been just as happy grabbing a burger at Pop’s. LOL Anyway, after dinner as we were driving back home, we passed a bunch of our friends out Christmas caroling down Walnut Street. What did we do? We parked the car and joined them!
You should have seen us – all dressed in hats and mittens – and there was Archie big as life, singing in the snow in a Hawaiian shirt and sandals!
Gotta love that Archie!
That’s it for now, bbs. I’m meeting Bets at the mall. I think her gift-making plan isn’t going as well as she hoped, so I’m gonna help. Veronica to the rescue!

Merry Christmas! I’m saying that to someone every day now :)
I’m having Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (got a cramp in my finger) ooooooooooooooooo much fun reading all your comments on my Christmas music post! What a great list of songs!
Oh, and daphnie, I looked up Himig Ng Pasko online and listened to it. It’s beautiful. Thanks!
So, here’s another tradtion I want to talk about: Holiday Decorations. Outdoor ones. Okay, here at my house, we used to go pretty traditional – wreath on the door, a few white lights on the spruce trees. It was pretty, in a stately sort of way. But then 3 years ago, Smithers suddenly got into the whole Christmas decorating thing and started buying stuff to put on the lawn.
NOW we have angels, Santa and his sleigh, a bunch of elves, and this year he’s adding a Christmas train! Our yard is starting to look like a holiday amusement park. There’s a line of cars outside every night driving by to look at it!
Do any of you have a “Smithers” at your house that loves to decorate?

Colored gemstones are the hottest look in jewelry this season. Big, bright and flashy all the way. And there are so many cuts to chose from. My fav is square. I just picked up this bracelet that is filled with a whole bunch of different colored bright square stones. And this is one of the few occasions where the stones aren’t real precious gems. Of course, the setting is 24k-gold plated, but that’s because I am rich!
If you are a silver kind of girl, the newest trend is architectural cuts, which is jewelry with shapes that are sharp and unusual, with many facets, which means angles and surfaces. Sounds a bit complicated, I know, so maybe you should search the web for some pics. Again, this jewelry is big and flashy, and meant for those who like to make a statement. And, of course you could find costume jewelry in these styles, so do not fret if you are on a limited budget. If Betty can manage, anyone can.

This is the 3rd post in my series about Christmas traditions. So far, we’ve covered Black Friday and Egg Nog. Today I want to talk about Christmas music. What do I think?
I LUV LUV LUV it!
I start feeling Christmasy as soon as I hear one – even in July! I luv all kinds of Christmas music – religious, old, traditional carols, comedy, instrumental, pop – you name it and I love listening to it! I also love to SING it. And I love to go caroling, too!
I guess you can tell how I feel about this subject. LOL So, this is my question today:
What is your FAVORITE Christmas song?

Guess who’s having a birthday here in Riverdale later this week?
Once you figure it out – it should only take you .065 seconds :) - then I could use a few birthday suggestions. The challenge each year is to get something that doesn’t look like just another Christmas present. I know ALL you December bbs know what I’m talking about!
Speaking of December bbs, WHO out there in bloggy land has a birthday this month?
