Earth Day Fun???

Okay, Earth Day is supposed to be fun, right? At least, that’s what I thought…

So, when Bets said we were going over to the Senior Center to plant trees, I thought she was talking about cyber trees, or some artsy little craft project, like hanging new sun catchers in the windows. I had NO IDEA she meant REAL TREES!

We spent 2 loooonng hours digging holes. In the dirt. I broke 2 nails. ‘nuff said. But, we got the trees planted and the Senior Center residents were very happy. (I still think we should have gone with the sun catchers.)

Then… we headed over to Jughead’s for a picnic he and Archie planned. Everyone was there! It was a blast… until Jughead fired up 6 big barbeque grills. Apparently he and Archie planned to cook burgers and hot dogs for everyone, but they’re not exactly master chefs. (Betty told them 10 bags of charcoal was too much!)

Long story short, thick smoke started drifting down the street, then the neighbors called the fire department. Three fire trucks showed up and crashed our party! By then, the flames were shooting so high that Jughead’s house was in danger of catching fire, so they shot water all over the grills and that was the end of the cookout.

Poor Arch and Jughead. They really tried, but now they will forever be known for setting a big smelly fire that choked half of Riverdale on Earth Day.

We had a “meatless” picnic – lots of chips, veggies and baked beans… and Betty’s Banana Pops, which were fabulous!

Hope YOUR earth day was more peaceful.

I’m headed to the tub now for a long hot bath… then I’ll try to do something with my nails.

Love,

Ronnie

that is totally a bad thing, smoke on earth day. i have to go to school on earthday, even thogh it is sunday, darn

Hey Ronnie!
Sounds Crazy! But it sounds like fun. I didn't really do anything for earth day, i planted some flowers today but i didn't realize it was earth day until i visited your blog! I'm hoping these flowers will grow, their beautiful! I hope you have a great rest of the day!

What?! You go to school on sunday? really? thats so cool! do You get monday off or something julia?

SMOKE ON EARTH DAY! how terrible! My friends, Iris Sam, Sam and I went on a picnic to bird pond. Iris put a twizzler in her soda for a random reason, and then said these make good straws! So Sam and I bit off the ends of our twizzlers, and used them as straws in stead of wasting plastic! it was fun, crazy, and conservative! I COULD EAT THE STRAW! it wasn't healthy, but great for earth day! and then iris picked up the plastic orb she threw yesterday when we rode our bikes to the creek. Man, now it's the week and iris has to go back to New York city! She hates it there and so do I, but her weekend house is so fun because she lives near an awesome rock bay where we picnic, a creek and bird pond. And it's so fun to go bike riding! HEY RIA! SEE U IN SCHOOL!

hey veronica,
looks like u had a very dangerous, but interesting earth day.i hope next year u won't have such an awful Earth Day.BYE!!!!!!!

I had lots of fun on Earth Day! First, each grade was in charge of cleaning up a bunch of different areas in the school. We cleaned out the 1st and 2nd Grader's mudroom, which is disgusting! Then, every student planted a tree (300 trees!) in the big garden at our school. Mine was a blossom tree! Then, my friends Rylee, Rebecca and I stayed late after school to help the janitor after school. It was really fun! Also, pina_c, I'll use your tip with the licorice straw!
With the smoke incident, I've had that happen before too. My dad put alot of hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill, then went swimming. After about an hour, he totally forgot about the grill, and it was smoking. It started a fire, and then the grass on our lawn was pretty ruined!

Hey Ron, I had a lot of fun on Earth day this year. When my Family went shopping, we used cloth bags instead of plastic bags! We even found a way to reuse old wood from our fence, we turned it into a Tree Fort! P.S. du u have a bro' or Sis' cause in Pals an' Gals Digest # 157 it said u had a niece and Nephew! Luv Ya!

What an interesting Earth Day! Believe me, I'd rather have your day. Mine was picking up trash at the park and working on a science project. Yours sounds memorable.
