Veronica Lodge is gorgeous, sophisticated, and very rich! She has no problem with the boys, except maybe Archie. She is forever trying to win over Archie's heart and will stop at almost nothing to prove to him that she's the right choice. The lovely brunette is very conceited, usually fickle and extremely flirtatious; whether using her money or her looks, someday she hopes to obtain the one thing she can't buy, Archie.

But it's fun to imagine being Veronica. Sometimes I wish I were more like Veronica. She doesn't worry and fret about how other people feel. Being self-centered does have its advantages although in the end Veronica does suffer the consequences. At least that's what I tell myself. And Betty would agree.

Archie: Samantha, what type of reaction have you received from friends and family when they found out you write stories for Veronica.

Samantha: I really don't think you would have the time to read all the things that have happened but to shorten it lets just say you feel like a celebrity!

Archie: You have a new story "The Make-Over" coming up, what is that about?

Samantha: This story is so funny especially if you like perfectly perfect Smithers. I can't tell you all that much but Smithers is trying to find a lady and Veronica takes Smithers on a shopping spree.

Barbara: This story Samantha really had to talk me into. Samantha knows all the characters inside out. She wanted to write about Smithers, something I would never do. I like writing about Betty and Veronica. I think their friendship is very important because they work through their differences. I also like to totally humiliate Betty and Veronica and show how they get over it. So many girls are hard on themselves. Betty and Veronica are good role models because they are cartoons of real life and through them; hopefully, girls can learn to laugh at themselves.

In early 2006, a new phenomenon was born. A TV movie was aired that captured the hearts of the nation’s youth. A modern retelling of “Romeo & Juliet” set in a high school to a thumping backbeat of catchy teen-pop, it aired to amazing ratings in the US and Europe. It was so popular that many repeat airings followed. Inevitably, it spawned a hit soundtrack CD and spin-offs, as well as DVD releases and a live stage show. A sequel movie is completed and about to air, with a third installment already in the works.

With a history of reflecting the current fads and fashions, it’s only natural that Archie Comics would take a stab at gently spoofing and paying tribute to this popular series, and this November that’s exactly what happens in “Riverdale High – the Musical,” appearing in VERONICA #185.

VERONICA #185
“Riverdale High – the Musical!”: When a former Riverdale High student-turned-famous screenwriter/director decides to make a movie about her teenage years, it’s enough to make Veronica, Betty and their friends break out in song! Of course, using the current high school class as inspiration, there’s more drama behind the cameras than in front of it! Don’t miss this hilarious spoof of the beloved musical high school films that have captured the hearts of the nation. SCRIPT AND ART: Dan Parent.
Shipping Date: November 14th, 2007
On Sale at Comic Specialty Shops: November 21st, 2007
On Sale on Newsstands: December 4th, 2007
32-page, full color comic
$2.25 US.
