It was a Friday afternoon at Riverdale…the gang was currently at lunch. They were all sitting together, like usual. Reggie was talking to Ronnie and Betty bragging about…who other than…himself. “As you all know, I’m not only incredulously handsome,” he batted his eyelashes. Betty rolled her eyes silently. “But I’m also a very skilled basketball player. And now, I’m thinking about trying out for Baseball!” Everyone moaned in unison. “Don’t tell us,” Archie said. “Your ‘incredible charming skills will get you into any game!’ except of course the last nineteen you’ve tried out for! Reg, how many denies do you need to realize - you aren‘t perfect!!!”
“Silly boy. I am perfect…you’re just to little to see it.” And with that he went back to studying himself in the mirror. A few minutes of silent eating and he spoke up again. “Which color do you think would more bring out my natural beauty; lavender, to be spicy and bold…or beige, to be suave and sophisticated?” Ronnie scowled at him. “Lavender is my color this week, pretty-boy, so keep your eyes off it.”
“Beige it is, then.” He pulled out his handy dandy mirror again. “So, gang,” Archie began. “I heard a new kid’s coming to town.”
“Yeah I heard that too!” Betty exclaimed. Moose frowned. “D-uh, where’s he from?”
“I don’t know yet. I don’t even know if it’s a ‘he.’” Archie said. “I just heard it from Ethel.”
“His name is Logan Grover. He’s our age.. He loves sports. I looked it up in Mr. Weatherbee’s files..” Betty said. “Oh and, he’s in a wheelchair, from a unfortunate mishap two years ago that involved two cars and him on a bike.” Everyone cringed. “Poor guy.” Archie bowed his head. Reggie looked up. “What was that? A wheelchair on a bike?” Betty sighed. “You’re hopeless, Reg.”
The following week in math Class……
“Class, I’d like to introduce to you a new student,” Principal Weatherbee began. “Logan Grover!” In came a boy in a wheelchair, waving to the students. “Grover will be here for awhile, so make him feel at home. Alright everyone, have a good rest of the class.” And then the principal left. “Must be a special kid,” Juggie whispered to Arch, over Reggie’s shoulder. “Since the Bee came in and introduced him himself!” Jug looked at Reggie, prestigiously studying himself in the hand-held mirror, and whispered, “the kid’ll prob’ly run Reg right outta town. Look, he’s obviously more handsome.”
“Obviously.” Archie agreed, catching on. Reggie looked up. “Huh? Who? That mutt? Hah! More handsome than The Reginald. Guffaw!” But inside Reggie was shaking as everyone ran up to meet the new kid. “It happened two years ago,” Reg heard him say. “I was driving on my bike….”
“I dunno, Pops.. This New Kid is testing my patience.. Everyone’s calling him ‘Go, Go, Grover!’ And now he’s saying he’s gonna try out for Basketball on Tuesday. BASKETBALL!!!!! Uh, I don’t now if you’ve noticed but, the boy’s kind of…DISABLED!!!”
“Whoa, calm down Reggie. Since when am I the waste basket for kids to dump their problems into?” Reggie, confused, said, “well….since you started the chocklit shop.”
“Yeah. I s’pose you’re right.” He sighed. “Well, I’m sure you’ll do fine, whatever you choose…now if you’ll excuse me, my favorite show is on.” Reggie nodded and sat and sipped on his smoothie. Sluurrrp. Sllluuuurrrppp. DING! (That was an idea - probably a rotten one - popping into Reggie’s head.) “I’ve got it!” He exclaimed. “Thanks Pop,” he yelled, as he ran out the door. “Kids..” Pop shrugged.
Riiing! Reggie sat in his room, writing out the plan on paper. His phone blared in his ear, as he realized he had his head to close to the table. “Yeoow..” He glanced at the caller-ID. Ronnie. What did she want? Oh well. He pressed the speaker button. “Hey babe.” He leaned back on his desk-chair, arms folded behind his head. “Hi Reg.” She said smoothly. “So, I was thinking, and, maybe for our date tonight we could go to--” Banng! Clank! Meoooow!! Date??? Reggie fell backwards in his chair, pulling the phone down on top of him. “Uh….sorry about that. Uh, yeah, look, can we take a rainy-check on that one?”
“What?” Ron exclaimed. “I’ve got some…stuff…to do.”
“Reggie you jerk you forgot didn’t you!”
“Noooooo…..no, I didn’t…I just…mm…uh…well….err…” *CLICK*. “Ron? Ronnie? Veronica..” Oh well. She’s come to realize why he had to postpone it soon enough. Then everyone would realize that Reggie was the only true KING of Cute and Sports!!
“EEERRRKKK!!!” << that was the sound of Reggie bursting through the gym window…in style! Aka; a tight black surfing suit. “Stupid, greasy window-frame.” He muttered. “Now where do they keep those stupid wheelchairs…? AH! There they are…. Mwahahaha!!!” .. uhoh!
“Ooh, here we are, a boomer of a score, tied between Riverdale and Chicago…And it looks like the Coach is bringing in a… ‘Logan Grover.’…woah! Looks like this kid’s in a chair….is that against the rules, Joe?”
“I don’t think so, Jim!”
“Well, he certainly knows how to play! Look how he stole that ball from the offense! Incredible!” Reggie cringed at the voices from the loudspeakers at the auditorium. “Go Logan! You can do it!” He shouted from the sidelines. Logan was penned in on both sides, but he didn’t see any teammates that were open. . He turned to Reggie for advice. Reggie gave him a hand signal that meant “Run it!” so he did. He started going and when he put his brakes on….nothing. So he jiggled with them a little bit, and a note came out. A NOTE!?!?! He franticly read it, hoping it was instructions. But it said;
Leave Riverdale, now! You shouldn’t be here.
PS - quit the basketball team.
- Anonymous
The note startled him so much, he clutched the wheel with both of his hands…and the chair stopped. Completely. And he wasn’t out of bounds! He pushed the chair backwards as fast as he could, and when he got far enough he shot. It was good! Unfortunately, he broke the rules. He stopped, and then he moved.. So Riverdale lost the game. Reggie started shouting at Logan, assuming the rest would join in, but everyone only went over and consoled him to make him feel better. How sickening! Well, now what? Logan didn’t bounce into the rubber ‘wall’ Reggie put there, sure, but he did cost Riverdale the game! And now everyone was telling him he was “gonna be ok!”???? It didn’t make sense. Didn’t make sense at all!
The following Saturday the gang found Reggie down at the Chocklit shop, sulking. But, they had a new member with them. Logan. Grr! Reggie scowled at him, and he gave a innocent smile. Innocent my foot!
“Hello Logan.” Reggie said smartly. “Hi.” He replied. “Reg, we were just about to go down to the mall….wanna come?”
“Is Logan coming?” The boy nodded. “Then I don’t see why you should need me.”
“Well, we don’t.” Ronnie said plainly. Betty elbowed her, and added, “but we would like it if you came anyway.”
“No way no how. Nuh-uh! Sorry, I’m unavailable. rain check.”
“Okay but…why?”
“Why? Why? You spend two-and-a-half Reggie-less weeks with this weasel, ahing and oohing over him, and I say I don’t want to spend three hours being ignored at the mall and you say WHY!??!” Archie stepped back a step. “Whoa. Cool down, Reg.. We didn’t ignore you!”
“Hah.” Logan looked down at his shoes. He bit his lip and pulled out a paper. He handed it to Reggie. “DOes… does this belong to you?” Reggie looked it over, then growled, “How’d you know?”
“I guessed… well, if that’s how you really feel, I’ll leave. I don’t have to be at this school. I can move…again. But it’s hard to find friends, and when I found you guys…I thought I hit the jackpot. Guess not..” He waved a solomn goodbye, and strolled out the door. Reggie brightened! “WOOHOO! S’long sport! Yes! I’m back in town!” But the Monday following, when word got around of why Grover left, Reggie was absolutely hated. He walked up to say ‘hi’ to some friends, and they turned their backs at him. “Harrumph. What a traitor. To think what jealousy can do to some people!” So Reggie decided that having attention stole from you some of the time, was better than being hated ALL of the time! So he called up Logan, and apologized for how he’d treated him. He said that he would be nicer, if Logan just came back. And he did. And to this day, the two are still terrific pals!

The New Kid by Emily:
With: Archie, Veronica, Betty, Reggie, Jughead, Moose, and Ethel!
I slowly walked down the halls of Riverdale High. It was so scary to be a new kid, again. I saw locker number 2385. I slowly entered the combination, but it was jammed.
"Oh, freak" I cried. A hand appeared, and the jammed locker was un-jammed, i turned to thank the person, who was gone already. I shrugged, and put my books away, just as a note fell out of my locker.
The note read:
'Hello New Girl, Emily. I hope you do not mind having an admirer' the note ended there. I smiled, just as I heard a shriek.
"WHATTA YA MEAN?" The girl cried, slamming my locker door hastily, I saw a lanky, black haired girl shouting at a guy with a 'crown' with a pin on it.
"WHATTA YA MEAN?" The girl shrieked again.
"Chill out, Ethel, I only said Burgers are the love-of-my-life" the dude said. "Oh, hi, there, I am Jughead" the boy saw my and stopped, smiling.
"H-hi, and you're Ethel, OK, well, where is the Home Econimics class?" I asked, trying to steer away from Jughead, he was kind, but still, I need to ajust abit, first!
"There" Ethel smiled at me. "Let's go"
WE walked down the hall, and I smelt a cake smell, pushing open the door, I saw a freckled-face red-headed boy in the Home Ec class!!
My teacher, Mrs Peach, smiled. "AAh, I was just telling them, Emily, please sit down, Archie is here just because he likes HOme Ec, we are baking a cake, Archie or Betty can help you find things"
I saw a small stove, and cookbook, and I read: 'Cherry-Pie Cake' and decided to make it. I groaned in misery, I smelt something bad, and wondered if that was my cake. I was gagging, when a girl with dark brunette hair pulled a burnt flop out of her oven.
"Oh! Mrs Peach, some-one turned my stove higher than it was meant to be" she cried.
Mrs Peach tut-tutted and wrote something on her clipboard. "Veronica, sorry, dearie, rich girls don't often get away with awesomely made cakes"
"Hi! I'm Archie!" the boy, Archie said, surprising me.
"Oh, hello! I am Emily." I said, watching as a blond-haired girl walked up to Archie.
"Archie Andrews!" she screeched.
"Uh-oh" Archie mumbled. "She found out I was out with Veronica yesterday, and that's Betty"
Betty had two cakes in her hand, each on a gleaming plastic plate. I gulped, as she threw on.
KER-SPALT!! The cake landed in Archies face, but the plastic, or so I though plate, hit my head. The plate wasn't plastic!! It was just lighter wood. I howled in pain, blood oozing from my nose.
Archie washed his face, and scowled at Betty. "Look! She's new!"
Betty gasped. "Oh- no, Mo-MOOSE!!"
A bulky, muscled guy rushed in, and soon I was in the nurse's office.
"W-what happened?" I asked, dazed.
Betty was leaning agaisnt the door, Veronica was tapping a pencil on the wall, Reggie was smirkign at Betty, Midge was smiling at Moose, Jughead was eating fries, and Archei stoof by the bed I was lying on.
MY HOUSE:
Archie, Ron, Betty, and Jughead gaped at my house.
"What?" I asked.
"YOu are rich!" Archie cried, "OH NO!"
I laughed. “But not stuck-up”
Soon, we were all friend, and we lived... happily... ever....after!!

When i woke up in the morning i heard my mother calling, "Rose, are you ready for breskfast?" i bathed, got new clothes, put on my make-up and ran down the stairs. my mother gave me my bring along breakfast and i rushed out the door.
when i got to school the first kid a met was the rich lovely Veronica Lodge. "Hi, you must be rose," said Veronica sweetly "You should know who i am. and you really need to come and look for me to get fashion tips."
Then i met Betty and Archie. Archie had orange hair and was really sweet. Betty had blonde hair and made her own clothes.
I met Jughead, Moose, Midge and Reggie. I was nervous and scared on my first my day of school. When lunch came Betty told me to be careful of Ms. Beazley’s lunch. Then Archie told me that her lunch was always terrible.
When I got my lunch I understood what Archie meant. Then Reggie came over and sat by me. “You got anything planned for tonight?” he asked calmly. “No I don’t,” I said nervously “I’m new here, remember?” “Yeah right,” said Reggie “I forgot.”
But I already walked out. Then I saw Betty, “Hey Betty,” I called “Can you teach me how to make clothes?” “Of course,” said Betty sweetly “Is your family rich? How much does your family save up in one year?”
“Well,” I said slowly “We might be rich. We have at least ten to twenty million coming in once every six months. How’s that?” “How’s that?” asked Betty “That’s even richer than the Lodge family!” How much allowance do you get every week?” “Let me see,” I said “I get forty bucks every week.”
“Forty bucks?” shouted Betty “You are rich. And you can buy lots of cloth. Why don’t we have lessons on Saturdays and Sundays?” “Perfect!” I said happily “What time?” “Ten o’clock,” said Betty “Ok?” “Yes,” I said “Oh, class time.”
The rest of the day passed quickly. And so did the week. I got a date with Archie and Reggie, on Tuesday night I went out with Reggie and he got me bored. On Thursday I went out with Archie and before we got to my house we kissed.
On Saturday Betty and I got together to make clothes. I made some mistakes and then got the hang of it. Then we went out for ice-cream. We met Reggie on the way. “Hi girls,” he said coolly “How was your date with carrot-top? Yuk.” “Shut up,” snapped Betty “Just go away Mr. Cool.”
I was surprised at Betty, she was so sweet. After we finished our ice-creams we bumped into Veronica, “Hi guys,” she said happily “Making silly hand-made clothes? Lame.” “Making clothes is not lame!” I shouted “It’s fun, and I am richer than you Veronica.” And then Betty and I stomped off. We went to eat lunch and go back to buy cloth. We spent the rest of the afternoon laughing and making clothes. That’s how we spent the next day too. But on Monday we had to go to school.
Every week we met Reggie and Archie. They asked me out on lots of dates but I really like Dilton, the school brainster. And then I got my chance to know him better. He asked me out on a date! On the night of the date I finally knew why girls did not like him, he was really too smart and got his nose stuck in books too often.
But I was like him, and we shared the same talents. One week before the spring dance Dilton asked me to the dance and I accepted. On the night of the dance we danced under the shining ball. We danced the whole night, and then Dilton sent me home. At the doorstep he leaned towards me and put his arms around me. And then he gave me a wonderful kiss.
I never forgot that kiss, he asked me out on dates almost everyday. We kissed slot and then one day we decided that we should do something else. So we stayed at his home and studied. When he sent me back he pulled me close and gave me a romantic kiss. Then we made out on the doorstep. And we got caught kissing by my mother. But she was happy.
And we really liked each other. And we made out a lot. Soon, we were even kissing before school and after school. and we got to know each other really well.
THE END.

I looked out of the window of my limo while I ,Rose Love ,brushed my long white hair, pulled on my blue mini-dress,and cleaned my blue slippers.I was nevous because I moved into a new mansion in a place called Riverdale and I heard I was way more rich than this girl named Veronica and I don't want people trating me diffrent.I opend my contact mirror and checked my whit skin, put on blue eyeshadow, and watched my deep blue eyes sparkle. As my limo pulled up to Riverdale High I walked in to the school.I bumped into this girl with a Blonde ponytail."Oh, Hi I am Betty Cooper. You must be Rose Love" said Betty." yes" I said shyly."Well you must meet someone named Archie Andrews, he is the welcoming commity" said Betty. " Oh here he comes now" said Betty. A cute guy with orange hair came up." Hi , I am Archie you must be Rose" said Archie. When betty left Archie asked me out and I said yes. That night after the date he kissed me." Welcome to Riverdale" said Archie.Ever since then I thought Riverdale wasn't going to be so bad.

i woke up to the smell of fresh flowers and grass coupled with the bright smiling sun.even mother nature has her blessings on my first day of school st riverdale high , i thought. i jumped out of bed to have quick shower.
i spent so much time in the bathroom, washing my hair, moisturizing my unattractive skin and soaking myself up in all kinds of perfume.
"seshie!"my mum called,"shouldnt you be ready now?". "i'm coming mum" i yelled scrambling out of the bathroom. i looked at the outfit i picked out yesterday night and thought: disater!what was i thinking.
i marched to my closet to pick out something else but the problem was i couldnt find anything. ofcourse they were clothes there but none of them looked like first-day-of-new-school kind of material.in the middle of my wardrobe catastrophe,my mum yelled at me to hurry up again.i would have told her about my disaster but i knew exactly what she'd say,"seshie, you've got enough clothes crammed in that wardrobe to clothe your whole school!why cant you just pick one out, after all everything in your closet is cool and trendy, right?". she had given me that same story a million times but in different versions.
as i threw out some tops, skirts and trousers, i heard this message replaying in my head:first impressions count, they mean alot! my friends i left behind in new york gave me all sorts of advice, that was one of them.
i finally settled for a white tank top, lime green leggins and a lime green dress jacket. "i'm ready mum" i call

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!?!?!?!?!?!?"I screamed,And then I fainted. When I woke up I was in the airplane."Where am I?"I asked."You passed out so we brought you to the airplane"said my dad."Hmph"I grumpted
AT RIVERDALE HIGH

"Mom! Turn the car around please! I'm begging you!" I cried from the backseat of my mom's mini-van.
"Kimberly, for the last time, no!" She replied sternly. I could tell from the look on her face that now was not the time to argue.
"Here we are!" My mom said as we pulled up the the curb. "Riverdale High! Oh, Kimmy, you're going to have a wonderful day!"
"It would be better if we were still in Tennesee." I replied. Man, was I unhappy. And nervous. And scared. Okay, I was feeling a lot of things.
As I got out of the car, my mother yelled, "Bye-Bye, Kimmy-poo!" I was so embarrased.
I walked into the school and finally after at least ten minutes of looking, found my locker. I turned the dial according to my combination, but my locker was jammed.
"Need any help?" A girl asked me.
"Yeah.Thanks." I replied.
"No trouble! I'm Betty Cooper." she replied. "Once you get used to them, the lockers are easy to open. You just have to wiggle the handle a little." She demonstrated, and as she did so, my locker swung open. Unfortunately, when my locker opened, it hit me in the head. It really hurt.
"Ow!" I cried in pain.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry! Let me help you to the nurse so you can put some ice on that." she replied.
After a while, my head was starting to feel better, so I went back to class. I had been in the nurses office for all of second period. I walked into my class, and immediately I saw Betty's pretty blonde hair.
"Oh, good! You're okay! Ron, this is....uh...I don't think I caught your name!" Betty said as I walked towards where she was sitting. I assumed that Ron was the drop dead gorgeous brunette sitting next to her.
" Kimberly. But, you can call me Kimmy." I replied sheepishly. I was a little embarassed. I had a large bruise on my forehead, and the ice pack had made my hair wet on top.
"Pleased to meet you, Kimmy. I'm Veronica Lodge." the brunette said. Betty and I both had the same next class, and Ron went off on her own.
"So, you and Ron are really close! You seem friendly to everyone here!" I said.
"Yeah, I only have one enemy." she replied.
"Really? Who?" I asked curiously.
"Veronica Lodge." she answered, blushing a little.
"I don't understand. I thought you were best friends!" I was so confused.
"The problem is that we have so much in common. Particularly an interest in Archie Andrews."
Archie was in our next class. I could easily understand why the girls fought. He was attractive, but I didn't think he was my type.
In gym class, I twisted my ankle so badly that the school had to lend me a pair of crutches. Luckily, the final bell rang, and I was free to go home and rest.
"Kimmy!" Betty called through a crowded hallway.
"Want to come to Pop Tate's with us?"
I called home and asked my mom. She said it was fine, so I went with Betty.
At Pop's, I met all the gang and made a lot of new friends. But, I had homework to do, so I asked Archie to give me a lift home.
As he helped me up the stairs to my front porch, I felt awkward being that close to him.
"Umm..K-Kimmy, I just wanted to say that u-uh..." Archie stuttered. Boy, he's cute when he's nervous.
"I'm really glad to have met you, and...." His voice trailed off.
"And?" I asked.
"Uhmm...uh.." Suddenly, Archie leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. I couldn't help but smile.
We went inside and I introduced my mom to Archie. They helped me upstairs to my room. Archie had to go, so I said goodbye and my mom walked downstairs with him. As I watched Archie walk to his car, I thought to myself, "Maybe he's my type after all...."

Anyway, after the obnoxious dude asked me out, I met some other guy named Adam. We talked, then said bye, and went on our ways. I met a blonde named Betty, who was REALLY nice. We talked, and she said her on-off boyfriend, Archie, was in the doghouse for TOTALLY being obnoxious. So we went to the dance together. It was SOOOO much fun!!!!! Anyway, that's my story. Hope you all like it!!!!

My alarm clock rang at about 6:00, tearing me away from my dreamland. I sat up, propped my pillow, and just sat there for a moment. Just then, it hit me like a snowball on a winter snowball fight.
School. The words echoed in my head, pounding and pounding. How did this happen? How did school come so fast?
My mother sudennly came into my room, her beautiful dress sparkled in my eyes.
"AAAAAHHHHH!" I shouted, not used to the blinding lights. "What's going on?"
"You're starting your first day of Riverdale High!" my mom refreshed my memory.
I quickly got dressed and got my backpack. I grabbed some breakfast and shut the door.
When I arrived at Riverdale High, Mr. Weatherbee, the principal greeted me.
"Welcome to Riverdale High, Rebekah!" He said. He was very friendly. He guided me through the busy hallways, stopping to chat with each student. He was also stopping to scold students, these two boys named Archie and Jughead.
"Hello Mr. Andrews, Mr. Jones." he said to them with a very stern face. "I have a new student here named Rebekah. She's new here and I want you to help her get along the school."
Boing! It seemed like hearts started to pop out of my head and that I was floating on a cloud.
To be continued

“The New Kid”
By Hilda
PART 1
“Hi, my name is Hilda, and I am a new student at Riverdale High. My family and I just moved to Riverdale a month ago and it took us a while to settle down into our new house. We went through a roller-coaster of emotions from depression to excitement. I miss my friends back home and my old house…my room, but I am also thrilled to know that my family and I are living a brand new, fresh start at life. And the idea that I can decorate my room anyway I want it is exhilarating!
However, there is one thing that bugs me: first day of classes at a new school. Let’s face it. Every student feels it every year as the new school year approaches: nervousness. It can also be exciting. But as soon as a student arrives that morning to their first day of school, it feels totally scary. Some students may be more freaked than others. Take my story for instance. Only, I have a main reason for my major panic attack and that was a secret that I was carrying. So as you can see, I had a load of problems on my shoulders.
So, that morning, I took in a deep breath and exhaled it before I took the courage to walk up the double-doors of Riverdale High. As I walked along the hallway to go to the principle’s office, I noticed a lot of students were nervous too. The hallways weren’t that noisy either. Everyone just walked through with minimal contact with others. At least it made me feel a little better knowing they felt the same way I did.
I waited by the door as the secretary walked into the principle’s office and announced, “Mr. Weatherbee, another new student has arrived.” There was a brief pause. I took a peek inside and saw him glance at a folder the secretary had handed him. I also realized he wasn’t alone. There was a girl with a notebook clutched on her arms and a pen between her fingers.
“Send her right in,” said the principle, excitedly. “Betty, I would like you to stay and meet our new student.”
“Sure.”
“You may come in,” said the secretary.
I nodded and walked inside. I was immediately welcomed by Betty and Mr. Weatherbee. “Betty, this is our new student, Hilda.” He then turned to me. “She is Betty. She is the editor of the ‘Blue and Gold.’”
I looked at Betty with confusion until she said, “That’s the name of our school’s paper.”
“Ohhh,” I mumbled.
“I see on your records that you have some experience with…” He stopped in shock.
Noooo! He must have seen IT on my records! He cleared his throat and closed the folder with such seriousness. He then cleared his throat again and asked me, “Would you like to be a staff member in the school’s….”
“I do!” I blurted excitedly. I haven’t paid much attention to his change of attitude until later. It took a while for my mind to process it.
“Excellent!” added Betty. “I have an assignment ready. I can give it to you. I think it would fit you best than who I had in mind.”
“Great! What is it?” I asked.
“You can write a story about your experience as a new student in Riverdale High. I need it by Friday so we can give out our first issue on Monday.”
“That soon?”
She chuckled warmly. “Don’t worry. You have enough time.”
I shrugged my shoulders and said, “Oh, all right.”
She then looked at Mr. Weatherbee and asked, “Are you okay, sir?“ He cleared his throat and nodded. “So, should I go ahead and print the names of the story contest winners?”
“Winners?” I interrupted. “School just started.”
Betty smiled and answered, “During summer school, Mr. Weatherbee held a weekly story contest.”
“Oooh, I see.”
Betty stared back at him and waited. He seemed blank at first. “Uh…uh, yes.” he cleared his throat again, glanced nervously at me and then looked down at a paper from his desk. “Here, write the names down.”
Betty took a quick look at me. Uh, oh! She was suspicious. She then quickly lowered her notebook and wrote as he said the names. “Maria, Alexa, Jan, Ann, Celina, Meg, Pureheart the Powerful, Maha, Kami, Julia, Amal F., Troy W., and Cinammon Apple.”
“Got it,” she said at last.
Once Betty left, Mr. Weatherbee had a good talk with me until I reassured him I was harmless. After he phoned Mr. Leafmet, the principle of my previous school, Mr. Weatherbee was totally convinced that I am harmless. So out of his office I went and sighed with relief. But it only lasted a while because I grew tense at the idea of what if the students found out about my secret.
I made my way to my first class and sat down at the last stool at the very back of the room near the window. Once class started, my chemistry teacher, Mr. Flutesnoot, passed out a white envelope to everyone and said, “Before we begin, I am passing these out. A group of our past Sophomore Student Body Government, had made these special greeting cards for each student in the school. So take a few moments to read them so we can begin our first lesson.”
I held onto the envelope until he finished talking. I then smiled at the thought that this was very cool and interesting. Almost like a gift. Well, it turned out it was really a sweet gift. And kinda like a fortune cookie, hehe.
It read, “We, the Sophomore Government Student Body, understand the fears and stress of starting off a new year at Riverdale High. So, to welcome you and make you feel comfortable, here are some positive advice from us and a free ticket to The Archie’s Concert on Saturday night at the Riverdale Stadium. Good luck!” It had their names beside their roles and a message beneath their names. “Betty Cooper; Vice President, ‘Don’t be afraid to open up and give a hand to those who need it. You just might gain a friend if you do.’ Dilton Doiley; President, ‘Study a lot and you will get much closer to your goals.’ Archie Andrews; Recorder, ‘Be positive and spread it around. People need to hear and feel special. Everyone, including you, are very special.’ Nancy Woods; Secretary, ‘When in doubt, always ask for help. Never be afraid of anything. You can do it! We support you in all your good deeds!’”
Wow!! How encouraging! There were more messages on the card but I didn’t get the chance to read them since my teacher began the lesson. So I gladly put it away into my messenger bag and suddenly realized that I felt good. It’s amazing how listening, or in this case, reading such positive advice can brighten one’s mood and perspective. For example, I wasn’t as worried about people to find out about my secret anymore…until later. Read on.
PART 2
My first week at Riverdale was pretty interesting so far. Everything seemed to go smoothly and fun around school. Even the students were being more relaxed each passing day in school. Suddenly, it all seemed too good to be true. And it was for a while.
I got to observe many things. I got to meet The Archies and one of them is the famous Socialite, Veronica Lodge! I was too excited that I couldn’t say a word out but “uh…uh….” Veronica Lodge is gorgeous! I always wanted to be like her. I dreamed of becoming a model and rich like her. I was surprised though to learn that she and Betty had gotten into a fight (but it didn‘t last). They argued over a date with Archie.
Archie was cute and so friendly like Betty. They are amazing! But then I saw why Veronica and Betty were always fighting over him. Besides him being cute, Archie was good at flirting with other girls. In one case, I found Archie leaning a hand against the wall near a pretty girl and flirting with her until Veronica caught them and hollered at him from across the hallway to stop. Let me tell you, I had never seen a guy jump up like a frightened cat with his hairs up so high that they might fly off from his head.
The girl turned around to peek at Veronica and quickly ran away. Archie tried to run away too, but he accidentally crashed into Betty and Jughead and sent them flying backwards and onto the ground. Jughead got the worse hit that he let out a loud snort and banged his head on the lower lockers behind him. At that time, Reggie was standing by his locker when he saw them and pointed at them as he laughed so hard. What’s more, Veronica walked up to Archie and brought him to his feet when she grabbed him by the ear and pulled him along to a corner to talk.
Reggie just wouldn’t stop laughing but he did manage to say, “Why not put him on a leash next time?! Or better yet, shove him into your backback and carry him with you everywhere. Just don‘t forget his diapers and pacifier! Hyok hyok!”
I couldn’t help but laugh too. And what’s even more funny was watching Reggie laughing even more because of his own joke that he ran off and into the guys bathroom.
Reggie Mantle is a mischievous and sly guy but also a practical joker. Some girls found him charming and handsome. I’ve seen many flirt with him and him combing his hair. If he runs that comb over his hair again, his hair would rip off his head. How much more flat can he get it? I’ve never seen a guy groom so much. A girl, yes, like Veronica but a guy? Never. This was the first time I’ve seen one. In fact, I thought he and Veronica would make a good couple. But, oh well. They and their friends seemed to tolerate each other some times.
I had a cool chemistry partner. His name is Dilton. I’ve heard he is the school’s genius. And very short. But I think he is cute. I only wish I can tell what the heck he is talking about most of the time. All I do when he talks to me is stare blankly at him and nod my head like a paddleball. He is so good at everything he does. However, there was one thing that went wrong with our class project but I am almost sure it wasn’t his fault. I’m guessing it was Reggie’s. Reggie’s partner had called Dilton and me over to see if we could “explain” something to him about the class assignment while Reggie got up from his stool and walked away. I should have turned around to see where he was going.
Reggie looked serious but when he came back, he looked like he wanted to hide his face with his hands or his arms. When I asked him what’s wrong, he just said that he was sleepy and rested his head on the desk. I couldn’t see if he was laughing since he was facing the wall but I thought I saw him tremble. So, by the time we went back to our desk and Dilton poured in a solution into a beaker, it started to smell awful and a purple fog began to overflow and filled out into the air.
“The assignment! How could this be?” cried Dilton, horrified.
I grabbed his arm and pull him outside after the others. I thought I heard someone laughing behind our classmates in the hallway.
“What happened?” I queried.
Dilton was having a panic attack. “I don’t understand it! My calculations are accurate! How could…” some chemical I can’t pronounce, “…a negative effect on the….” another chemical I can’t remember now.
I didn’t know what to tell him. He looked inconsolable that even Mr. Flutesnoot couldn’t help him as he patted his shoulders and told him it was okay.
Lunch time was everyone’s favorite hour…except for Dilton. And the rumor about Ms. Beazley’s food being gross was so true, until I got a tip from Jughead. “…The flavorless ‘water’ stew, the week-old stale garlic bread with cheese, the super dry macaroni and cheese, and the cold burritos are disgusting. They are usually a bunch of leftovers. She takes them out and puts them near the end of the line.”
“Why?” I asked grossed out.
He continued, “The best time to get the best meals is by arriving early ‘cause they go fast. When the bell rings, run to the cafeteria. If you come late, you’ll get stuck with the leftovers.”
The following day, which is now Thursday, I followed his advice and was awed by how precise his tip was. Precise…I must be hanging out with Dilton too much that it rubbed off on me, hehe. Anyway, I got in line and had the most delicious lunch. I had a fresh, homemade slice of pizza, a hot serving of mixed vegetables, a fruit salad and a warm chocolate brownie. I even got an extra brownie for Jughead as thanks. That’s when I first discovered his monstrous appetite. I was terrified to see how quickly he shoved that brownie into his mouth and finished it before I finished telling him, “…thanks for the…tip.” I also noticed he got up four times afterwards to fill his tray into a mountain of food. What else could I say besides I was stunned?
“Are you okay?” said a sweet voice beside me. I was startled that I jumped up and quickly turned to her and her boyfriend. Her boyfriend was a huge jock. He had on a jersey and carried two trays on each hand. WOW!
“Yeah!” I sighed.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” I told her.
“Duh, can we sit with you?” he asked.
“Sure, of course,” I added with a smile.
As they settled down onto the bench across from me, he placed her tray in front of her and grabbed the milk carton to open it up for her. “Thanks, Moosie.”
“Uhhh, you’re welcome.”
“I’m guessing you are both boyfriend and girlfriend.”
“Duh, no. She can’t date herself. That is weird.“ He scratched his head. “Unless you are Reggie.“ I almost spit out my soda. “I am her boyfriend and she is my girlfriend.”
“Are you okay?” she chuckled.
“Yeah.”
“Did I say something funny?” he looked lost in his thoughts.
They introduced themselves to me and we talked for a while that I had so much fun. They, Midge and Moose, were terrific and so friendly. And I couldn’t help but laugh every now and then at Moose’s comments that I had to stop eating the rest of my lunch to prevent from choking. Besides that, I was able to catch a glimpse at what Midge had told me: Moose sure is a “lovable guy.” Sometimes he would reach out to give her a little tickle or surprise her with a kiss on her cheek.
I had such a great time until my fear came true. “So, Hilda,” said Reggie with a suave tone in his voice, but his eyes revealed otherwise.
My voice trembled. “Y--yeah?!”
“Leave her alone, Reg,” said Midge.
“Yeah!” added Moose.
My heart pounded so hard and I could feel my blood rise to my head. What’s worse, he had brought Archie, Veronica, Betty, Dilton, Chuck and a few others I didn’t know, along with him. Reggie waved a hand out for everyone to be quiet and asked me, “You’re from West Hill High, aren’t you?” GULP! Everyone exchanged surprised glances.
“Yeah…so?” I mumbled nervously.
“So what, Reggie?” cried Betty. “Leave her alone.”
Riverdale High is one of two rivals of West Hill High. West Hill High has the bad reputation of being the worst and problematic school in three cities. After each sporting event, they tend to trash and cause problems to other competing schools. You might be thinking, “Is that your secret?”
“Yeah!” added Archie. “She isn’t like the other kids there. She’s very sweet.” He looked at me and flirted, “And hot.” (So he says.) Veronica and Betty bopped him over his arms on opposite sides and he massaged them afterwards in pain.
“That’s very nice of you, guys….”
I was rudely interrupted by Reggie. “She was the one who staged that disastrous prank after the football game last year.” NOOO! He found out my secret! But how?!
“What?!” Everyone was beyond shocked.
“Duuhh, I don’t remember seeing a play on the football field? What kind of play was it?” queried Moose.
Reggie grunted impatiently. “What makes you think I said ‘play?’”
“You said ‘staged.’ Doesn’t that mean like ballerinas on a stage or a play?”
Reggie gave him a look as if telling him, “Stupid!”
“No!” he replied. He then looked at me, mischievously, and added, “After the game, everyone left the school to celebrate except Svenson. He heard a loud crash by the gym and found a car right through the back wall of the men’s locker room; the school was filled with hand-written banners that read, ‘Riverdale stinks!’ and thousands of bathroom rolls hanged down all over the school!”
You can imagine how every one of them looked like, as they were standing there with an angry look on their faces. Except Moose. “Maybe she had to go but couldn’t find the girl’s locker room?”
Everyone turned their attention to him. Betty then looked at me and asked in her understanding tone, “Did you really do all that?”
“No, of course not! I would never do such a thing!”
“Do you really think she is going to admit it?” asked Reggie.
I felt so desperate. How was I gonna prove to them it wasn’t me? “I didn’t do that!”
“Ha!” cried Reggie. “Svenson said he found you passed out on the lawn by your car!”
“I was framed!”
“Oh sure!” jumped Veronica.
“Let me explain, please!”
“Guys, let’s give her a chance,” added Betty.
“Oh, please!” complained Veronica.
“Hey--hey dudes!” shouted Jughead while they argued. “If she says she didn’t do it, then let’s give her a chance to explain.” I realized more students were coming closer to hear.
I quickly took in a deep breath and let it out nervously. “I told principle Leafmet that I overheard a bunch of guys and girls planning to trash Riverdale High after the game, but he told me I had nothing to worry about because most likely it would be some harmless prank. When I told him the pranksters mentioned there would be a car crash incident, he thought I was crazy. So after the game, my cousin and I came to try to stop them, but they must have known I had overheard their plans and so they must have changed them. My cousin’s car brakes were cut. And that is why we crashed. It was part of their plan!” I added innocently. “I didn’t know that until then! I had passed out and my cousin carried me out of the car and left me by the lawn while he chased down some of the guys. By the time I woke up, I found the school filled with banners, thousands of those pushpins lying on the floor in the hallways….”
“I didn’t know that,” said Archie.
“Neither did I,” added Jughead.
“…and bathroom rolls hanging all over the school buildings,” I finished.
Everyone was silent for a moment until Reggie pulled out a paper rolled up from his back pocket and showed it to me. “Then how come it says here in some dude’s blog that you were the one who planned it? It even has you and your cousin’s photo.”
What?! And how did he get that?! I tugged on the ends of my hair and grunted with frustration. “I’ve been framed!” I pointed at the paper and cried, “That ‘dude’ was one of them!”
At that moment, Dilton made his way through the crowd and asked with concern, “What’s going on here?”
PART 3
I immediately jumped up, shoved my way through the crowd in tears and ran off to my house. Yeah, I skipped my next classes. I couldn’t face them anymore. My mom was terrified that she ran after me upstairs and cried, “What happened, sweetie?”
I immediately stopped and turned to her in tears. “They found out! I don’t know how but they found out and they don’t believe me!”
She hugged me tightly and said tenderly, “There, there. I’ll call the principle and straighten this out. You go to your room and try to relax.”
I was motionless that she had to lead me into my room and I forced my legs to bend so I could sit down on the edge of my bed. It took me a long time to realize that I had left my messenger bag at school. “Too late now,” I thought. “They’re probably going through my stuff or dumping it into the trash.”
About ten minutes later, my mom walked back into my room and found me lying down on my bed in silence. I had cried so much that I couldn’t cry anymore. All I could do was stare at the window in silence. My mom walked over to me and said, “Honey, I just talked to your principle.” I slowly turned to her, out of my silent trance, and waited for her to spill the news. “He sends his apologies and said that he will straighten everything out.”
“Good luck to him,” I barely mumbled. “They wont listen to him.”
My mom was so worried but she tried not to show it. “He is going to call me back later for more news. In the meantime, you rest. He said you are excused for the rest of the day.” I nodded and forced a smile on my face.
It was then three o’ clock in the afternoon and by this time, it was the end of classes for the day. What’s more, my mom and I were even more tense because Mr. Weatherbee hasn’t called back yet. Anyway, I thought it over and decided at last that I should go out and find some sort of distraction. Anything to get this day’s nightmare off my mind.
What happened next, you might say. Well, I didn’t go to the mall or any place where I thought I might run into a Riverdale High student, so I went to the park and sat down on a bench to look at the beautiful fountain. It was very relaxing, but a part of my mind held onto that scene back at the school’s cafeteria. How I wished I could make it go away.
At last, I was surprised by Archie and all of his friends. I was so jumpy that when I saw them approach me, I bolted up and ran when Archie yelled for me to stop. I ran as fast as I could until I felt someone grab me from behind and slow me to a stop. I turned to look who it was. “Reggie? What do you want? Leave me alone!”
He panted but blurted, “I’m sorry!”
The rest ran up to us and stood by. I was stunned and beyond confused. “Huh?”
“I’m sorry,” he repeated. He looked different. These past few days, I saw him as a conceited jerk and a spoiled brat who cared only about himself. But in that moment when he apologized, I saw a side of him I never thought he had. He was totally opposite. He looked so guilty and humble. Yeah, humble. Weird, huh?
“Mr. Weatherbee told us the truth,” said Archie.
“I’m sorry too,” said Veronica.
“We all are,” added Betty.
I was shocked. ‘But…how…what happened to you guys? Why do you believe me all of a sudden?”
Jughead fixed his hat (shaped as a crown) and answered, “At first, Mr. Weatherbee told us that he will tell us tomorrow but then he changed his mind. He said if we found you, to tell you the news. And give you this.” He handed me my messenger bag.
“W--w--what news?” I mumbled.
Midge jumped in, “Mr. Leafmet dropped by and talked with Mr. Weatherbee. There will be an assembly tomorrow to tell all the students the truth.”
“Yeah, and Mr. Weatherbee said that you don’t have to come for your first period class tomorrow, which is when he will be giving the news to the school,” explained Archie. “By now, he must be over at your house to talk to you and your mom.”
I finally began to calm down, although I still felt sad about the whole situation. “And that’s it? You believed my story just by talking to your principle?”
They all exchanged glances; they looked ashamed. Archie rubbed a hand on the back of his neck and said, “We believe him because…“
“We know him so well,“ added Midge with sincerity.
Archie went on, “That and because he showed us the proof.”
How? Is there something I didn’t know about? I raised an eyebrow with curiosity and asked, “Showed you? How?”
Dilton pulled out several sheets of paper from a folder and handed it to me. I was overwhelmed. I never saw these before. Dilton pushed up his glasses above his nose with a finger and said, “Mr. Weatherbee allowed me to make you a copy. Mr. Leafmet has agreed to erase the incident from your records.”
I let out a chuckle of excitement. “Are you serious?”
He nodded. “Totally,” added Jughead.
I was speechless. “So,” said Archie. “Will you forgive us?”
Everyone waited anxiously, including Reggie. “And me?”
I couldn’t stop myself from grinning. I was so happy! “Of course I forgive you guys.” They all sighed with relief.
Reggie then looked into my eyes and placed a hand over his heart. “Let me make it up to you.”
“Well, I….”
He blurted, “Why don’t I take you to the ‘Back to School Dance’ next week?”
“Hey!” cried Dilton. “I was going to ask her to the dance!” He then blushed as if he just realized what he said. And by the looks of it, everyone was surprised by his outburst.
I chuckled. Reggie looked at him before he looked back into my eyes. “Okay, fine! Then how about to the concert this Saturday. You can watch me perform….” Archie bopped him on his left shoulder, “…us perform and then we can go and get something to eat afterwards.”
I nodded with a smile. “Okay.”
Everyone cheered. It was all too good to be true, but this time, it was real. Yup, it was a happy ending.”

The New Kid by Gottapenname
A new school year at Riverdale High and everyone was excited especially the new kid Sarah Ina. Normally she wasn’t too keen on the first day especially in a new school, but this year she had a new wardrobe and a new hair cut that made her look awesome. When she walked into school, she was confronted by a black haired boy wearing a school jacket. She thought he looked like a total jock.
“Hey. You new around here?” The boy asked.
“Yes” Sarah answered.
“Well, I have been here my whole life, I am the best athlete in the school ”The boy boasted.
“Then you can show me around?” She asked.
“Sure thing doll,” the Boy replied, “Name’s Reggie Mantle, by the way.”
“I am Sarah, ” she said.
“Sarah, you want walk to home room together? ”Reggie asked.
“Sure thing,” Sarah answered.
At homeroom everyone had noticed the new girl come in with Reggie. They were all wondering who she was.
“Hello class we have a new student in our class,” Miss Grundy stated pleasantly. “Her name is Sarah. How about you tell us about yourself.”
Sarah waited until all eyes were on her until she decided to walk up to the front of the class to speak. A cute freckled red haired boy was the first to look.
“Got to introduce myself to him,” Sarah thought to herself. So after class she did. “Hey there, names Sarah,” She greeted.
“I know, Miss Grundy introduced you to the class. I also know you came here from Canada and you’re into cool stuff like comics, my name is Archie,” The cute boy with freckles said.
“And I thought you were to busy checking me out to be actually listening,” Sarah teased.
“I was doing both,” Archie admitted bashfully.
“Aren’t you a cute little multi-tasked one?” Sarah flirted.
“ There’s a dance we have every Friday and I was wondering if you would go with me?” He inquired.
“Sure thing,” She answered.
She wrote it down on her planner. They both went class.
After class Reggie approached her.
“ Hey how’s your first day going?” He asked her.
“Good. All the people here are friendly, a bit too friendly. It’s almost not right,” She joked. “I am not used to such things coming from the big bad city of Toronto.” Making air quotes as she said the words big bad city of Toronto.
Reggie chuckled a bit.
“Don’t worry I am just nice to you because you’re new and pretty. Once you settle your self down I am going to be a real pain, I promise.” He teased.
She started to laugh a bit.
“You want to go to the dance with me?” Reggie questioned.
“Sure,” She said spontaneously.
She put it in her planner forgetting to read what she had already put there, which was her date with Archie.
“You want to sit with me and my friends at lunch?” Reggie asked.
“Okay I‘ll see you guys at lunch,” Sarah announced.
At lunch Sarah sat down with Archie, Reggie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. They were busy telling the new girl about their summer and finding out about hers. They didn’t focus much on the upcoming dance. Afterwards everyone except for Jughead and Sarah left for fourth period. Jughead and Sarah stayed behind to finish their lunch. Just as they finished their lunch a tall gangly girl came up towards them and Jughead hid. After she passed, Jughead came out of hiding.
“ Who was she and why were you hiding from her?” Sarah quizzed.
“She’s Ethel. I am hiding from her because I don’t want to take her to the dance and she wants to take me, ”Jughead answered.
“ That’s not very nice,” Sarah pointed out.
“But I really don’t want to go out with her,” Jughead countered.
“Well maybe if you already had a date, she wouldn’t bother you,” Sarah suggested.
“ A date, like you,” Jughead added.
“Is that you’re way of asking me to the dance?” Sarah queried.
“If your answer is yes then maybe,” Jughead cryptically answered.
“ Then yes if you’re willing to take me,” Sarah answered.
“Then it’s a date,” Jughead announced.
She nodded to him and put it in her planner. It wasn’t until after school she had looked in her planner and realized she had just booked a date with three guys for the dance. She panicked. She told her dad about the situation but he had no sympathy for her.
“ If you had paid better attention to your planner this wouldn’t have happened,” Her father scolded.
The phone ringed it was Reggie calling for Sarah and she answered.
“I am calling about the dance,” Reggie had said.
Her heart stopped. Reggie was friends with Archie and Jughead. Could they have caught on to her unintentional three timing ways? She didn’t want to make enemies on the first day of school.
“What about it?” She asked.
“ I think I will have to cancel. Betty Copper asked me and I said yes,” Reggie answered.
She could see he felt guilt ridden because he went rambling on about how sorry he was.
“Reggie,” she said interrupting his rambling “It’s okay, It’ really okay.”
“Um Sarah …could you not tell anyone about how I asked you before Betty? I don’t want Betty to find out about how careless I was,” Reggie confided.
“Okay,” she answered; after all it might reveal how careless she was.
“At least I kept my promise of being a pain to you after you settled down, “Reggie joked. “We can still be buds right?”
“Right. We can still be friends. Good bye now,” She replied.
She hung up the phone and crossed out go with Reggie on planner for Friday’s dance. She was relieved that there was one less boy to worry about, she thought to herself. She thought, “That Reggie sure is an interesting fella though. I hope he and Betty have a good time at Friday’s dance.” Then the phone rang. This time it was Archie also calling about the dance.
“You’re calling to break off our date for Friday,” She said trying not to sound too hopeful.
“How did you guess that” Archie awed. “Wait a minute did Betty tell you how I am always breaking dates or that I sometimes make date with more than one date at the same time? You see I only do that sometimes” Archie stated defensively.
“You have had multiple dates on the same day?” She asked for confirmation. “I had no idea you were such Casanova,” she teased.
“It was never on purpose,” Archie said innocently.
“I know, I know,” She laughed.
She then she explained what happened to her, knowing he wouldn’t judge.
“Well a least fate helped you out a bit, and since you’re a first time offender I ‘ll keep your little mess up a secret,” Archie reassured her.
“Thanks Archie,” Sarah said.
They both said goodbye and hanged up the phone. Reggie and Archie are two very unique boys and I would really like to know them more she thought to herself. She would also like to get to know better now her now one and only date for the dance, Jughead. She crossed out date with Archie on Friday from her planner. She thought, Jughead, now there was a unique boy if she ever met one. She was about to go to bed, when the phone rang again this time it was Jughead calling.
“Is it about the dance?” Sarah asked. “If it is can’t it wait until tomorrow? I don’t want it cutting into my beauty sleep,” She groaned.
“It’s about the dance, but don’t worry. I‘ll be quick,” Jughead replied.
“Okay. What is it?” Sarah questioned.
“ Well you were right, it was wrong of me to be running away from Ethel because she wants me to go to the dance with her.” Jughead answered.
“So?” She asked.
“So, I am taking her to the, dance so you don’t have to take me,” Jughead told her.
“Goodbye Jughead,” She said.
“Goodbye Sarah,” Jughead replied.” Also don’t tell anyone about this, I wouldn’t want Ethel finding out and getting jealous”
“Okay Goodnight,” She answered.
They both hung up the phone at the same time. Then Sarah went to bed. She wasn’t too happy that she didn’t get a date for the school dance. Then again there was always tomorrow, She thought. Today was very hectic. She hoped tomorrow would be a bit more calm, but with odd characters like Archie, Reggie, and Jughead and herself lurking in the halls of Riverdale High chances are tomorrow was going to probably be just another crazy day at good old Riverdale High.

The New Kid
By Katherine K.
One nice, sunny day, I had just awakened from my slumber at an early seven o’ clock in the morning. I yawned and murmured to myself, “First day of school!” I was very excited to be going to a new school—“Riverdale High School.” I swung my feet over the side of the bed into my slippers, and walked to the kichen to eat some breakfast. After that, I rushed to the bathroom to brush my hair and my teeth. Last, but not least, I wore my favorite outfit! It was a beautiful blue velvet dress, laced with green satin. The shoes were green also, with cute little bows on top! Soon, I grabbed my backpack and ran out the door. “Have a great first- day- of – school!” my mother squeezed in before I closed the door. Soon, I was walking on the sidewalk to my school, but with a twinge of loneliness. I normally walked with a friend. That’s why I was very lucky that I ran into Betty and Veronica on my way to school. Betty spotted me first, and quickly introduced herself. With a bright smile, she shook my hand and said, “Hello! My name is Betty Cooper. And you are...?” “I’m Katherine. Hi!” Betty then tapped Ronnie on the shoulder, letting her know I was there. Ron spun around, only to find my smiling face. “Oh! Hello, there! I’m Veronica Lodge! What’s your name?” “Nice to see you, Ron! I’m Katherine. I’m new at Riverdale.” “Well, you’re in luck, Katherine. Betty and I go there too,” said Veronica happily. Then, the three of us walked and chatted all the way to school. But in the middle of a juicy gossip conversation, we all heard the bell scream out, RING! RING! “Oh, no, the bell!” all three of us yelled at the same time as we raced for the school door. We soon were in the classroom plopping down in our seats, and just in the nick of time too! I soon spotted a boy with slick black hair and a mirror in his hand. “It’s clearly Reggie Mantle.” I thought, “I wonder who can date someone with such an ego!” “Hello, girls and boys. I see a new student in my class. I welcome you, miss, to our school.” said Miss Grundy. I beamed up at her. “Hi, Miss Grundy! I’m Katherine K.! I can’t wait to get the day started.” I said to her. Miss Grundy beamed back, and said it was time to start the class now. She taught us a lot of different things about English. All too soon, it was time for lunch. Betty, Veronica, and I walked to the lunchroom. Reggie tagged along because he was part of the gang. As soon as I went in the lunchroom, the first thing I saw was a boy with red hair and freckles. Next to him was another boy, who seemed to be the red head’s friend, with black hair, a long nose, and a hat that looked like a little crown. I came up to them and tapped them on their backs. “Hi!” I said as the two boys turned their heads, “My name’s Katherine. I’m new here. What are your names?” The boys were speechless at first, so Betty, Veronica, and I took a seat together. “My name is Jughead Jones,” said Juggie. “And my name’s Archie Andrews, Katherine.” he said as he scooted next to me. “That’s a pretty dress you have on there!” I giggled and thanked him. “Hmph!” said Veronica. And I couldn’t resist giving Archie a hug, too. He hugged back. “Double hmph!” added Betty. After lunch, the whole gang this time, went to science class. The group also saw a boy there too, a boy with black hair and glasses that had a shine that always made it look like the glasses were blue, and he was rather short. I introduced myself to him. He said his name was Dilton and that he loved science. RING! RING! shouted out the bell. It was a good thing we were all in the classroom! “Before class begins, I’d like to say, welcome back to school! I hope you all had a wonderful summer.” said a teacher called Mr. Flootsnoot.
"Today, we're going to do some back-to-school experiments. The first one we will be doing is making a volcano. It won't be that hard to do." So, he taught us all how to make a fake volcano. Then, we were given partners. I got Archie, Ron got Reggie, and Betty got Jughead. Since Dilton was the last one left, he felt free to work by himself. Everyone worked very hard. Everything worked out well, until something very unexpected happened. Dilton was gazing out the window, probably thinking about doing the final touches on his new invention I heard of. Now, I'm sure everybody knows not to daydream while doing important things. So, he mixed up the wrong chemicals in the volcano model, and then, KA-FOOM! The volcano blew up! The mess was cleaned up fast, but it didn't turn out as well for Dilton. The grade he got was C-! But in the end, everyone did pretty well, except poor Dilton. After Science class, we went to our last class...P.E.! It was also my personal favorite. So, Betty, Archie, Jughead, Reggie, and I ran off to the basketball court to practice. I had already signed up to play, so I knew I was welcome to go. "C'mon, Archie, or we'll be late!" said Betty to Archie. "I'm hurrying Betty," said Archie as he took my hand, and then Betty's. I could clearly tell he liked to be around girls. "Finally, we made it!" Jughead puffed. It really wasn't that far, but you know Jughead! TWEET! TWEET! Coach Clayton blew hard on his whistle, making everyone close by jump. "Alright, everyone, today is the first day of back-to-school. So, for the first day of school, we will be doing free play!" Coach Clayton said warmly as a welcoming. Everyone cheered very loudly. "What do you do at free play?" I asked Archie quietly. "Free play is where you get to do shots, dribbles, and running around any time you want!" Archie answered happily. Understanding, I smiled, and cheered with the roaring group. At long last, everyone quieted down to listen for when Coach Clayton would give the signal to start. Six long moments passed. All of a sudden, "TIME TO START!" Everyone cheered louder, and raced for the basketballs. Soon, everyone was dribbling and shooting hoops. I wasn't a bad player, ether. Betty was amazingly good. Juggie seemed to be the slowest walker!
Later, after gym class, after the dismissal bell, the whole gang (Archie, Veronica, Betty, Reggie, Jug, and I) walked to the Chock'lit Shoppe. We all sat, chatted, and ordered food. I noticed I had a lot in common with many members of the gang. All too soon, it was getting close to sundown. Everyone (except Archie) said they needed to go home. Archie took my hand, and asked me to sit on the outside bench with him. I planted a kiss on his cheek, and said "Of course I will!" Then, hand in hand, walked to the bench. I put my head on his shoulder, and watching the sun dip over the horizen, I thought, "This the most memorable day of my life. I hope it will last forever!"
THE END!

Never stand on a toilet seat, especially in wedge heels. I stand on the rims of the seat and check my appearance in the round bathroom mirror. I don’t have a full-length mirror, but I had the idea of standing on the toilet seat. I bend low to look at the top half: a cute magenta-and-lime-green T-shirt. Satisfied, I bend even lower to look at my hair when—
“KYLIE!” My older brother’s low voice makes me jump, causing me to slip and fall, face inches from the sink. I’m wearing wedge heels because I’m frightfully short without them, and I desperately need the added inches. “That was close,” I breathe, and stand up. “Uh-oh,” I whisper. The fall has done something funny to my face; it’s bright red in patches. I rub at it and it seems to go back to its normal shade. “Shut up, Brian!” I yell over my brother’s constant whining. “Five minutes more, Kylie!” Brian yells back, and walks off. I snarl something impenetrable at him as a reply.
“New students to Mr. Weatherbee’s office. I’m Ms. Grundy,” a middle-aged lady with white hair in a bun tells me kindly once I step inside the school building. As I walk in the direction she pointed me, giant seniors float by, looking nonchalant and crumpled in a vague and cool way. A pretty blonde and brunette bounce by, nodding to me as they pass. I make a mad dash for the door labeled “Principal’s Office,” bumping into a few kids on the way.
“Watch it, freshman!” a sharp voice rings out. I don’t dare turn around to see who is talking. “Get lost, Reggie,” a familiar, low voice sounds. Reggie grunts, and replies, “See you later, Brian.” After I’m sure Reggie’s gone, I turn round. Brian towers over me, a smile playing at his lips. “Stay out of Reggie’s way, sis. And don’t look too scared, it’ll make things worse,” he adds, and walks off. Sometimes having an older brother has its advantages. But what were “things?” And why would they get worse?
“Okay, class. You get to see me, Professor Flutesnoot, first thing in the morning, five days a week!” a half-bald teacher starts, writing his name on the board. “Why don’t we start off by saying all the things we’d rather be doing right now?” he says, a sarcastic smile on his mouth. A murmur of “SLEEPING” passes the classroom, and a few smiles. I sit back and start to doodle on my nails with my purple highlighter.
A little while later, I sit in my advanced algebra class, the only class of mine with seniors in it. Four humongous kids sit at the back of the room, grunting answers and muttering things under their breaths. What are they talking about? I tune in to bits of their conversation: “Ethel…iguana…LIZZIE…loose in the school…” “Pizza…lunch…today” “Lizzie…Pizza…LIZZA! LOL!” My mouth is hanging open by the time they shut up. I feel a bit drowsy, and my eyes lose focus on my over-enthusiastic algebra teacher.
“Hey…hey, you…oi…magenta t-shirt!” I jump, my eyes focusing again. I turn around, and my eyes open wide. The same brunette who had nodded to me this morning is looking me in the eye. “Something’s wrong with your nails,” she remarks, and I look down; my purple highlighter marks have blended with my nails and I must have had an allergic reaction to them. My nails look as if they’ve been run over by a car! The brunettes hand covers my mouth before I can yell. “Shh, you don’t want to get on Mr. Davey’s bad side. Go up and tell him about your nails and I’ll take you to the nurse’s, Magenta.” Magenta? I sigh nervously and do as she says.
Half an hour later, I’m sitting quietly at the side of a chatty lunch table. The brunette, blonde, the “Reggie” guy, and a kid with orange hair are talking animatedly. The rest of the kids are just looking on, either eating busily (like some guy with a beanie chewing noisily at a huge pizza) or looking on admiringly. “Prada is not a fashion don’t anymore! Just look at my suede Prada bag!” the brunette (Veronica) tells a small sampling of sophomores. “Hey, Ron, come and have a ride in my new—” Reggie starts. “NO!” Veronica replies, and turns back to the sophomores. “Fine,” Reggie shrugs. “I’ll just ask the freshman.” He points at me. Noticing my stunned look, the blonde turns to me. “Hi,” she says kindly. “I’m Betty, you must be new—yeeee!” she goes, noticing my crusty green-blue-purple nails. “I mean, that looks painful!” she corrects herself. I nod uncertainly.
“Hey!” Veronica squeals, looking at me. “Almost forgot about you!” she remarks. “Guys, this is Magenta!” she says to everyone. Every head on the table turns to me. “Um,” I begin. “Actually, my name is Kyl—?” I stop; the guy with the beanie has just lost hold of his pizza, it soars through the air and falls all over my magenta shirt. I scream, and now I’m sure of it, every single person in the cafeteria is looking at me. “Jughead!” Betty exclaims. “Never mind,” Ronnie says. “Now you’re tomato-sauce and Magenta, right? But we can call you Pizzenta for short!” she squeals, and as soon as she finishes, everyone starts to laugh. I get up as sneakily as I can and just as I’m about to reach the middle of the cafeteria, when I notice a faint yelling, getting louder and louder.
“Lizzie!” a dark-haired girl says, bursting into the cafeteria. A lizard thing darts across the floor and jumps up when it reaches me. I try to run, when crack! go my wedge heels.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!” I yell. I’m splattered on the floor when I notice with disgust that the lizard is licking at the giant blob of pizza on my shirt. “I think I’m gonna hurl!” I say, but I can barely be heard over the dark-haired girl’s screams. “Do you mind if I take that?” Jughead says, and leans down and grabs the pizza. This time, I do hurl. All over Veronica’s cream suede Prada bag. I look up. “Didn’t expect you to mess up THIS bad,” Brian is saying.
****************************
Thursday afternoon at Riverdale High rolls around. “I can’t believe that new girl transferred schools,” Betty is saying, walking down the steps of Riverdale high. Veronica looks down at her freshly laundered and dry-cleaned cream suede bag, still with small stain and faintly reeking of pizza. “It’s for the best,” she says.

OK, guys, this is Jayanna here, but I want to do a different character for a while. K? K.
The New Kid
Part I
By Jayanna
Well, I had just moved to Riverdale from LA. LA! The city! I was going to be an actress Then I moved to drab old Riverdale. Have you heard of ANY actresses from RIVERDALE? I didn't even know there WAS a Riverdale until my Dad's boss transfered him there. My mother; Victoria, told me it would be good for me. Out of the city and all. Well, I walked in to my homeroom class at Riverdale High in my favorite outfit.... a brown rhinestone halter dress with a green tank top underneath and wedge heels to match, flipping my layered platinum blonde hair, whitch had a brown crochet headband on it. Well, immediately a gaggle of girls formed by me, with a flood of boys behind them.
"What's your name?" one asked me.
"Evane. Evane Starr. I answered.
"WOW." Everyone gushed. UGGHH. Simple small-towners. Didn't they know pretty much EVERYONE in LA looked like me? Still, I wouldn't complain about the attention.
"Hello. I'm Veronica Lodge." Some black haired girl told me. "Local star!" She flipped her hair. Wow. What a show-off. Then I saw someone who caught my eye. A redhead, who looked ALMOST as pretty as me. I walked up.
"Hi... I'm Evane Starr. Call me Evane." I told her.
"Cheryl Blossom." She told me. We became BEST FRIENDS. We loved the same things! Acting, singing, dancing, etc. Until she shoved some poor kid with black hair and glasses out of the way.
"MOVE, Dilton." She said.
"HEY! Back off!" I told her.
"What? No way!" Whatever. I helped the dude up. He seemed in awe that someone other than his closest friends would do that. Dilton and I went through the day together. Then some guy came up. Said his name was Reginald Mantle, and I would be lucky to be his date to the dance.... blah blah blah..... what ev.

The New Kid!
Hello, everybody. My name is Fantasia O, but you can call me 'Taisa.
Last year, I started school at Riverdale High. Let me tell you a story about my first day!
I walked in to my first class - it was English, if I remember correctly - and there I met the whole gang... pretty much. Midge was sitting next to Reggie and Moose, who looked as if he was about to beat Reggie up (I remember wondering why). Betty and Veronica were sitting together, with an empty seat beside both of them. Chuck and Nancy were two seats away from each other. I sat down next to Betty, because Ron seemed to much of a rich girl to me (she had an extra-fancy outfit on for the first day of school). Ms. Grundy took attendence. Everybody was there , except, of course, Archie.
Ms. Grundy sighed, and began the class. Fourteen minutes later, Archie walked in. I was so surprised by his hair! Believe me, Archie's hair is absolutely wild. He sat next to Veronica - poor Betty, he look moony-eyed and boy, was she jealous! He barely even noticed me!
My next class was science. Poor Flutesnoot!! First Archie and Reggie were partnered up by schedule, and they made a big BOOM! while fighting over something, because they knocked some sort of chemical into their tube and it pretty much exploded. Then he was explaining something (I'm not sure what, I was daydreaming about my hometown of Brazil) and when he was done, Dilton politely pointed out how he had gotten this and x and y and z wrong, and he got all fazzled trying to figure it out. So frazzled, in fact, that he he dismissed class early!
Jughead, who forgot to bring a snack to school, split and went to Pop's. Reggie and Midge hung out for a while... until Moose came along! Then Reggie sidled over to me, me, just standing there looking around at everything, and he gave me a flower. Unfortunately it squirted grape juice all over my brand new white shirt, and so I upped and left - besides, he made a bad (and big!) impression in science class!
Veronica came over and complimented my hair style, and then left because she thought the new color of my shirt was gross. But she and Betty were having a fight, so Betty came over. Then Archie came over, so Betty left. Agh!
I had another class - math - and let me tell you, I don't mean to brag, but I am a whiz at math! We had a really hard pop quiz, with bonus questions. I got 103%, and Dilton only got 102%! He was absolutely google-eyed!
Finally, it was lunch. Everyone around me (except Jughead, of course) thought the food was gross, but I thought it was pretty okay, compared to my mom's cooking! I sat with the gang. I met everyody. They seemed great, and when I told them I played the keyboard, they asked me to join the Archies! I said yes, of course. Ethel came up to our table and started trying to persuade Jughead on a date or something. I instantly knew she was awesome!
Next class was History. In the hall, I bumped into the Bee. He wasn't soft, but really, really hard! He gave me detention, even though it was only the first day of school! Of course, he was rushing, and his head looked balder than usual, so he was probably really busy. Oh, yea, I remember I saw Superintendent Hassle in his office later on, while I was passing it. After History came Geography, and then Study Hall.
Study Hall was interesting. Lucky for us, we didn't have any homework. Dilton was at my table. Ms. Grundy left (the Bee called her in) and we started talking. I found out that he's really interesting, and I think he likes me. It was good, because the girl he used to like was flirting with another boy, and they seemed into each other.
Next was detention. I met a boy named Nick there - you might know him. He's a bad, bad, boy. He's just trouble. I stayed away from him.
Everybody was there, even Archie. Then Dilton walked in.
"Dilton??!!" we all asked at the same time. How could he have gotten detention?
He blushed; he knew what we were thinking. "Mr. Weatherbee is talking with somebody, so I offered to come in here and watch over you."
I started laughing. It was such a Dilton-ish thing to do!
Well, that's about it for that day. Later that week, I had a gig with the Archies, and I went swimsuit shopping with Betty and Ron. Archie didn't mind another "model" along, either! I went to Pop's. They have the greatest shakes there!
Now it's the first day of this year. It's been an entire year since I started. Betty, Ron and I are all BFs, but they consider themselves lucky because I'm not into Archie. Instead, I'm dating Dilton! I really love him. He's so smart, and he's pretty funny too. I love laughing at his zany inventions (he has a lift now, with footholds, to make him taller!) and having someone to talk to about highly advanced math. Reggie is still annoying, and Nick is still bad to the bone. Jughead has found another favorite cook - me, and Midge is my best girlfirend to talk to when I have problems. Dilton and I tutor Moose, and the gang is reallllllly happy! Oh, yea, and Ethel and I are BFFLs. I sort of keep her from Jug, so he's happy, too.
Well, bye! If you enroll, hope you like RHS like I do!
Luv 'Tasia

The New Kid
By: Sally
I laid in bed the night before I would start going to my new school thinking, “Oh, why, why did we have to move??? I was doing just fine at Weld Central High School with all my friends and now we had to move!” I started crying and Mom came in. She said, “Sally, it’s ok, you’re going to do fine tomorrow. I promise.” So, taking her words of advice, I went to sleep.
The next day, the first day of school, I was scared to death as I started getting ready. I kept thinking, “What if the kids don’t like me? Will I be the only small kid there?” I ate breakfast and started out the door. As I kept walking, a couple girls were walking behind me and caught up to me. “Hey!” they said. “Are you new to Riverdale High?” “Y-yes,” I said.” “Cool! We are Betty and Veronica! What’s your name?” “Sally. I used to live in Hudson, Colorado,” I replied. “If you want, we can show you around and show you where your classes are! What grade are you in?” Betty asked. “I am a sophomore this year.” As we were talking and approaching the school, a red-headed boy came up behind us. “Hey Betty and Ron, how are ya? Hey, whose this little cutie?” he asked. “I’m Sally, and I’m new,” I said shyly. Before the boy could say anything else, Veronica said, “Oh, Sally, this is Archie, and he is my boyfriend and Betty’s. We have been in a love triangle for years.” “Oh,” I said, suddenly very uninterested in Archie. I did not want to get tangled up in their web.
“Finally,” I thought. We stepped into Riverdale High. Betty and Veronica instantly brought me
