SONIC THE HEDGEHOG ENTER BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS
Archie Comics would like to announce that Sonic the Hedgehog has been was recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest running comic series based on a video game.
From the 2008 Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition "LONGEST-RUNNING COMIC SERIES BASED ON A VIDEO GAME The longest-running comic series based on a video game is the American Sonic the Hedgehog Published by Archie Comics. It has now been running for 14 years and over 180 monthly issues having first appeared in July 1993."
Starting two years after the release of the first video game in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog features a combination of characters and storylines from the games and cartoons, mixed with original characters and stories. The Sonic games continuity is an intricate part of the comics, each new game is incorporated into the story of the comic. Sonic and the Secret Rings included a free comic made by Archie Comics specifically for the game and both Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed will be included in the comic. In 2009 Sonic will continue to reach new milestones with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 200th issue.

I seem to recall the UK's Sonic the Comic running for 223 issues. In fact I seem to recall Archie and Sega claiming the exact same thing when its comic reached 100 issues (and STC was still being published!). So I'm not so convinced this is a record!

The UK Sonic is in the 2008 Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition too. But only as a small note, because it was bi-weekly it did not run as many years despite the issue numbers.

I doubt that there will be a last issue and I kinda think this article's getting old.

There are no plans to end Sonic at any time soon. You can look forward to issue 300 in 9 short years.
Yippee! Only 9 years to go!! :) Maybe by then my parents'll kick me out and I'll have to change the address on my subscription card.

I remember I was in my school libary with my BF when I saw this!! I must have screemed very loud, 'cause everyone was staring at me!! I was so exided, that I lifted the book over my head, and screemed: "SEE?! I TOLD YOU SONIC WAS BETTER THAN NARUTO!!!" then I was sent to the princibles ofice... hem... AND HE FREEKED OUT CAUSE HE WAS A FAN TOO!!!! SO ALL THE SONIC FANS IN MY SCHOOL PARTYED IN THE LIBARY!!! lol, true story!!
