Archie: You are about to reach your 100^th consecutive issue of Jughead. How did you initially get the job penciling Jughead?

Rex Lindsey: I think my style of cartooning fits the Jughead character, if not my own personality. So, the editors put me on the book!

Archie: How have you been able to stick with Jughead for so long, while other artists have trouble stick with a title for 6 months?

Rex Lindsey: I dig the Jug man, and so I keep asking to draw the comic and scripts magically appeared! Thanks to the editors of course!

Archie: Did you initially think, “I am going to stick with Jughead as long as I can”, or did this just end up as a happy coincidence?

Rex Lindsey: No, I wanted to stick with Juggers!

Archie: What is it about Jughead that appeals to you?

Rex Lindsey: Like I said I relate to the Jughead character. I think everybody feels like Jughead every now and then. I know I do!

Archie: You are working on both Jughead and Archie & Friends at the same time. Has this caused any difficulty keeping up with your deadlines?

Rex Lindsey: Yeah, but I am trying to keep up. I wish I could draw faster, I guess I am too much of a perfectionist!

Archie: Usually you work on short stories. What types of differences are there in drawing much longer stories, like the one in Archie & Friends?

Rex Lindsey: Longer stories are harder to draw because of the wilder settings. Longer stories are more suspenseful and the plot twist more complicated. The characters personalities are looked at more deeply too!

Archie: How many different locations are there in the Archie & Friends story?

Rex Lindsey: There are going to be 5 different counties in which the grand adventure takes place! Whew, am I bushed!

Rex Lindsey: Quite a bit, I want the readers to feel like they are in a new and exciting local. I use the internet, travel books and my own personal travel experiences!

Archie: You have also done the covers for the American Series, what type of reference materials do you use to capture each era?

Rex Lindsey: For the different ages I use old magazines and old TV shows, plus my own memories of what was popular at the time. When I draw the covers I feel like I am living back then. It takes a second or two to come back to the present!

Archie: The different look between 40’s Archie and today’s Archie was showcased in Archie Digest 236. How did that story come about?

Rex Lindsey: The editor and the writer, like me, likes history! We thought it was a good idea to show our readers that the history of Archie Comics is cool! Things in the past were cool once too! Thanks for asking.
