We Need Some Sun

Hi bbs! Well, it’s official – the January blahs have arrived in Riverdale. You know, I thought we were blah-proof here, but apparently that’s not the case. LOL

I saw more frowns, bad moods and tears at Riverdale High today than I’ve seen in years! And you know what? NOTHING was really wrong! I asked Ms. Grundy about it after English class. You know what she said?

"Oh Betty, January is ALWAYS like this. You never noticed because, in years past, YOU and VERONICA were the ones upset… usually over Archie."

You know, she’s right! Wow - what a realization! I’m SOOOOOO glad THIS January is different.

Don’t worry, bbs. I’m sure The January Blahs won’t hang around here very long; all we need is a little sun! Hey, the blahs haven’t shown up at
YOUR house, have they? Lmk how you chase them away. Thanks!

Fiesta Chicka:

Bets, sadly i've had the blahs since....before Christmas break. You get tired of school. You know what i mean? Like After break i was a o.k. but than i get tired again. Like last week was so hard. *sigh*. I am so not a morning person. Give me the nightlife any day. So yeah though today was just dull. But this semester is going to be better than last. I'll make it better.

Katy, how was your day? Are you allowed to sleep in?

-Fiesta Chicka

christin:

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I will never NOT have the blahs!!! I'm home-schooled But I have to get up early (well mom WANTS me to but I don't). It's only 8:06 now and I'm gonna pass out!

katy:

I know exactly what you mean Fiesta Chicka! Right after break I was okay, but now I have WAY more reports and more pages:p

My day was okay, except for the schoolwork:p I normally get up around 7:00 before everyone else is up and work on things: Straighten up my room, organize my binders, finish my LEGO robot, sort my socks and just get geared for the day:) My mom usually wakes up at 7:30 and my brother we wake up at 8:00 so I'm a 'morning person':D My schoolwork normally ends before 12:00 and after lunch my brother and I play outside with our dog and work on reports.

My dad is almost nocturnal though:) He stays up until sometimes four in the morning:-0 I could never do that unless I was in a plane flying somewhere and couldn't get to sleep.

What kind of classes do you take in school? Which is your favorite?

Good Luck to everyone fighting January blahs,

-katy-

Marissa:

Hi Bets. The blahs unfortunatley have arrived. It's been raining, it's been gloomy. On top of that, I can't find my cat! My mom and dad say that he'll probably turn up sometime today. I hope so. I keep on praying for him.

Hi Bets. Unfortunatley the blahs have arrived. It's been raining, it's been gloomy. And on top of that, I can't find my cat! My mom and dad say that he'll turn up later tonight. I hope so. I've been praying for him.

Chandler the mighty:

Hi kathy! Chandler the mighty here From one homeshooler to another:When is SUMMER!?!?!?

Sarah:

yes the blahs are at my house right now
you are the best person ever

pearlgirl:

The thing I always do to lift my spirits is: reading.

Hope that helps!

(I don't actually HAVE winter blahs, because, as I already said, I read (and knit) when I'm down and when there's no sun).
:) :) :) :) :)

Hilda:

We hear ya, Betty. :( I've heard that saying before but I haven't given it much thought about it before. Could it be because the Christmas holiday is over and we are all back to our usual routine? Hmm... interesting thought....

It's been cold these few days but we love it because we can stay indoors in the warmth and stay cozy watching some tv or surf the net. And I love it when it rains! :D

ashleylin:

Not yet at home or school. Probably because I haven't been to school any this week. No blahs for me=)

Graham Cracker:

Hey! Who else is home schooled? I am! I loathe the Winter Blahs!

FiestaChicka:

Katy, i take the same classes in school as you. Only with more distractions. I have science, keyboarding, spanish, history, english, math, and a study hall. I didn't have a studyhall last semester. So i was really hard to get everything done. My favorite subject is Spanish! I love languages. Accents. Different countrys. Let's just say i love anything that is related to a different country.

How do you like getting up in the morning? At least you can sleep until 7am. I have to be at school at 7:25am. meaning i have to get up at 6:20 a.m. Luckly i live close to my school...

-Fiesta Chicka

PHEMY:

BETS,I AM TIRED,REAL TIRED!!!.I LIKE SCHOOL BUT I HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!! TO GET UP EARLY IN THE MORNING.

pearlgirl:

Chandler The Most Blahfull

I know what you mean. I'm home-schooled too. But I don't get blahs, I get mostly lonely, as I am an only child. (lol)

katy:

Hi Chandler the Mighty! I don't know whether you really wanted me to answer that question or not if it what a joke or what, so here goes...For my brother and me, Summer begins around the end of May or the begining of June (my B-Day!!:)when my mom finishes her classes at the college where she teaches:D We usually have our own 'Reading program' like at the libraries:D

So I'm sorry if I didn't get the joke or the question:( Please tell me which it was and if I answered correctly:)

When does summer start for you? Do you have Spring Break?

-Katy-

Feista Chicka:

Katy, my response should have gotten ro you by know.....i hope.

-Fiesta Chicka

katy:

Sorry for replying so late:S

You like languages? That is SO cool! I'm studying German this semester:D I do like getting up at seven:D I went to public school for two years in first and second grade and I had to get up at 6:20 as well!

Wow, have you noticed how many of the kids on here are homeschooled? I've counted atleast four...not counting me! I'm still very amazed:D

What is your fave thing about school, besides languages?

-katy-

Hilda:

I've noticed that I can't read all your comments until I press the "Preview" button then I can see more of them. And not just in this entry but several others. ??

How does homeschooling work? I mean is there some teacher that comes to your house and teaches you subjects? Just wondering how that works. :)

shea:

lol well it will be over soon dont worry about it betty lol...
and valentines day wont be bad either since you and veronica decided not to fight over archie..=]]
-shea (~*rockstar~* love nick jonas)

katy:

Hi Hilda!

I absolutely LOVE homeschooling! For many kids that is how it works, but in my area, normally the mother teaches her kids. In my family, My mom assigns pages the night before, and my brother and I do the work during the day. At night we check the work and go over any real problems we had:D Although, this wouldn't work if you had full-time working parents:) Our Mom and our Dad work fulltime, so it can be a little hard and stressful on our mom, but she likes having us around all the time:D

Theodore Roosevelt was homeschooled by tutors and his parents. The most serious problems he faced were a lack of social skills and little knowledge of languages. But, in those days, language was not so easy to learn on your own, and you had to learn I think, German, French, Spanish, Latin, and a couple other languages if you lived in the upper berth. As for the social skills, I am in 4-H, I run CC, I attend Youth Group and am actively involved in my church:D

-katy-

FiestaChicka:

Katy, I'm actually at school right now (don't tell my teacher). Yeah i have noticed how many home schoolers there are. Kinda makes me feel left out....ummm i really don't like much else besides languages. There are up days and down days. Sometime i just don't knwo i don't like it. other days....

Well, i'll blog you in todays blog..

-Fiesta Chicka

katy:

Oh Fiesta Chicka, Don't feel left out:( That's a good thing about these blogs it doesn't matter who you are, you can always find a friend. And feeling left out on the computer is a lot better than feeling left out in normal activities. I like youth group but the public school kids are more like, "We don't want to talk to them. They're weird!" Alot of people think homeschoolers are weird. That's why I like this place. Everyone gets to know as a homeschooler and I'm not so weird, am I?

Anyway, Don't feel left out:( What languages are your favorite? Or, which ones have/are you study/studying? Please type back soon:)

-katy-

Fiesta Chicka:

Katy, R U there?

Fiesta Chicka:

KATY, wow thanks for knocking some sense into me...oh and i always feel left out. Just because i'm kinda a loner. If your really crazy your one of me. I can be friend with almost anyone but in terms of people my own age...if your crazy....;-) join the weirdo club. I can promise you you'll never be bored. hehehe. yeah that's why i'm glad i grew up homeschooled. but i'm never going back. i see how the public schoolers act. And then i see how the homeschoolers act. Now that i'm in public it's like they act weird. They don't even know their doing it. It's like subconciuse(or however you spell that). i don't know. w/e . oh and if i say your wierd that's a cool thing. You go tto understand my lango to understand me. If you understand. Wow that was weird. hehehe ;-) the only language i've ever taken is spanish. like this year. i hope to do more when i travel. Like learn the lango with the natives type thing.

k respond soon.

-Fiesta Chicka

katy:

That was enligtening! My brother and I call ourselves 'weird' all the time:D How do the homeschoolers act strange just so I know:) I was kind of a loner in Public School when I was there! And now that I'm homeschooled it is like you described, they act weird! So I guess it must be a mutual thing:)

You're Weird,
-katy-

Fiesta Chicka:

Katy,
what i meant when i said weird in terms of home schoolers is they kinda feel like they need to 'save' you or some thing from yourself. They don't know it but they do it. of course there are those weird home schoolers who were born weird. ;-) that's why i'm still as weird as before. hehehe yeah your probably right about it being a mutual thing.
I have a question....how do you get on the computer so early if your doing school work? Like today it makes sense because it's the week end. And how do you finish school by noon? I never got done by then.

-Fiesta Chicka

Jasmine:

Actually they have Betty. For a long time now.I hate seeing fog, puddles, rain, cold weather, and freezing temperatures on the news.I wish some sunshine would at least show up.Yesterday,it didn't rain at all.It was kinda sunny if you ask me.I went over to Daly City to see my cousin's basketball game. Her team won 8 to 23.They were awesome. My grandma and my uncle were there. We visited my grandpa at the cemetery, ate at Chevy's,went to my grandma's house.Since it wasn't raining my other uncle,Uncle Chris,my cousin,my brother,my uncle's girlfriend's son took advantage of that.We played at the basketball courts. It was fun.Good weekend.Back to school tommorow.GLOOM.

Hilda:

Katy,

Hi. I was never homeschooled but I wish I was. Public schools are getting dangerous. My brother went to the same school I went to and not only are there bullies but there were kids with drugs and weapons. I'm so glad my mom pulled him out of school. So he finished school through the mail.

Being homeschooled is the best in my opinion because of so many benefits and let me tell you, public school is filled with many kinds of people. Including teachers. I've had mean teachers and one was discriminating. True. It's rare to find a real good teacher in public schools. When I was in elementary, there was one teacher with a reputation of being a mean teacher. I think she abused some kids.

During lunchtime, I used to hang out with few different people each year and or semester, but they either were jealous, alcoholic, or something. I could get along with anyone as long as they give me a chance and they were interesting in hanging out with me. I've had friends from different backgrounds but each went their own way.

One time this girl was drinking in school and offered me a zip. I told her no, of course. Man, she's crazy! So I left that group and went solo. And man, I became a proud loner. :)I could go anywhere I wanted to during lunch without people bugging me about something bad.

Katy, that is wonderful that you are doing activities to keep up your social skills. Now that is good education you are getting. :D

katy:

Hi Hilda! That is one of the reasons our Mom likes to homeschool us. To kind of shelter us from the world, motherly love, I know kind of weird:D

Fiesta Chicka, I still don't understand about the weirdness, but I almost think I get it:D And I know what you mean about weird homeschoolers born weird, Well, it's not so much that they were born weird, but they grew up even more protected from culture than I am.

I finish by noon each day, because, my brother and I each work at our own speeds and remember this is homework, how long do you spend on your homework? After we finish our homework my brother and I can type, email, IM, Review for a test, whatever we want. It's pretty cool!
