Today Ms. Grundy gave us an extra credit assignment (which means you don’t have to do it, but it would be a smart thing if you did in case you mess up on a test later.)
We are supposed to write a 10,000 word paper on one of the following subjects:
Organic foods
Recycling
Alternative energy
Whales
Ms. Grundy loves whales, so I think I’ll write about them. Problem: I only know enough about whales to use about 50 words. So, if you know where I can find some obscure whale facts, lmk.
Your Pal
Arch
P.S. I heard Reggie say he’s writing a paper about ALL of these; he needs all the extra credit he can get right now!

Whale facts hmmm...well it just so happens i love whales too so maybe these will help.
-Average lenght of an adult orca is 18-32 ft and a newborn is 7-8 ft.
-Blue whales are the largest living creatures on earth.
-Gray whales are the only whales that are known to feed often in the sand and mud feeding on shellfish, crabs, and worms.
-A blue whale's blow can reach as high as 30 feet.
-A sperm whale's diet consists of squid, giant squid, octopus, and fish.
-The humpback whale breaches more frequently than other baleen whales.
-Orcas are the largest member of the dolphin family.
-Blue whales have no known predators.
Hope this helps!

Well, Archie, I don't know any facts about whales at the top of my head. Well, if you count a little squirty hole at the top of its head! The best thing to do is researach the internet. Wikipedia would be good, or go on google and search "whales" you'll be surprised on how many websites talk about whales! Maybe they'll have a few essays you could get ideas from. You can also go to your library and look in the search computer "whales." It will have a lot of books. But, I think the internent is better, because facts are more up to date.
Just trying to help,
xoSarahh.

If I had to write that long of a paper for my teacher I would do it on Whales. Not because they are my favorite animal or anything, just because it sounds the most interesting.
Luv,

Hey Arch,
I'm doing a paper on whales too. I found an article interesting, though a bit bizarre and unbelievable.
Madi
Sorry Madi, I had to delete the url that you wanted to give Archie. I bet it was a GREAT one but the blog rule is no urls allowed.
Keepin' everyone safe,

Like Katie said Wikipedia is an awesome source for info. You could also try Riverdale Library and see what they have on them. Once you get started, there is a lot of ground to cover. Orcas, Blues, and more! Like Heather said, Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island is a wonderful source of info, because the story is centered on an orca whale, and there is also a whale watching place you can go to that shows you lots of info about all kinds of whales, including the different noises they make.
PS Katy I can't download the Archies onto my computer, but "Sugar, Sugar, you are my candy girl" sounds like the perfect song for me! I'm diabetic so I always have candy around for lows. People always try to "borrow" my candy.
